Lumin U1MINI

a) Technically the ground terminal is for people whose AC is not grounded. Some users chose to connect a grounding box to it.

b) You may insert a USB thumb drive to either USB 1 or 2 position. You can play files this way. However, browsing is slower and is restricted to folder view, unlike using MinimServer. If you also use USB output to DAC, i.e. reading USB thumb drive and outputting to USB DAC, there will be sample rate limitations due to the nature of USB.

Thank you very much!
Just to.... complete my view, I'll use the AES output only to DAC, so, just and maybe a SSD with USB for the "incoming extra album"

USB thumb drive and HDD should work. Some USB SSD may require too much power.

Ah! Right! So... do you have some advice for using just "250 Giga" of Music? (And...or... do you have some "experiences" about SQ from "this side" or theoretically sholud be the same of the Ethernet input? .... Mhmm... thinking about, USB input should be considered as all the usb and therefore "take advantage" of the improvements if in combination with those "silencers" like iFi audio etc.
No?)

New version.
Version 11.5 (Aug 13, 2019)

Enhancements and fixes:

  • Updated Roon version
  • Add front panel MUTE display. (This where it appears or how it works).
  • Improve error handling for Qobuz server busy
  • U1 X1 T2 Fix AirPlay volume
  • U1 X1 T2 Add delay to digital output
  • S1 A1 T1 Fix HDMI output to Denon / Marantz AV receivers

A very quick (2) question(s):

a) is it possible to change from U1 mini settings the PHASE of the streaming (from file) Music?
Thanks.

P.S. Is a "future feature" made possible via firmware?

b) how can I "resume" (if something will be not...) the playlists from iCloud, if is it possible...

A. Not currently possible. This feature needs to be evaluated with respect to technical feasibility due to complications with DSD and breaking product line consistency.

B. Restore from iCloud should be automatic if you turn on the iCloud setting for Lumin app, provided you do have playlists on iCloud. Try reinstalling Lumin app if necessary.

I think it is now possible to browse the iCloud playlist file from iOS system (outside the Lumin app).

Thanks a lot; for the "b" question all is OK, in fact while I was deleting one playlist I had to accept the form "are you sure to delete it for all the iCloud device", I own... Perfect!
For the "a" question... I'm not (so) happy: I understand that it could be a software update (am I wrong?) but you are not "ready". But.. the U1 (not the mini) can do it! Right? (The DSD files... I suppose are "only" the 20% of the common PCM listening... why do not offer the PCM only?)
I mean.... we are talking about "inverting the phase" because some recordings... bla bla bla...

Thank you again.

I’m about two months in with my lumin mini and love it feeding my bryston BDA3. I went via AES by siltech and I’m glad I did. Very impressed how analog it sounds.

No, currently none of the Lumin products can output phase inverted digital signal. (They can only output phase inverted analog signal if desired.)

If a setting only works 80% of the time and fails for the other 20%, some may consider this to be a defect.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself well.
I have assumed that only 20% of the files are DSD while all the rest is PCM.
I therefore thought that the "filter" (inverting the phase) could have the option valid only for the PCM leaving the DSD flow unchanged.

I understood what you said. The problem is, people will then ask why PCM can be phase inverted but DSD cannot be. Having PCM and DSD play in opposite phases add confusion, since many people's libraries contain both PCM and DSD music. There are also users who upsample the PCM to DSD before sending the digital signal to DSD-only DAC (e.g. some configurations of LampizatOr), so a PCM-only invert phase function is useless to them.

To do digital invert phase, please consider using Roon.

It's a democracy reign! :D 80 is motre than 20.
But... "step by step" could be another good answer.
I'm waiting the PCM!

Luca

..and if you have this feature ready for PCM only, then... you can not keep it into a "secret"!
C'mon... there should be an option to enlight it ON or OFF.
DEMOCRATIC option. (Call it "killer option")

Anyone played around with BNC out cables to see if they make a big difference on this? I'm using the Nordost Silver Shadow and thought it was good until I purchased 2 more for between my MScaler and Chord DAVE DAC and they were so poor sounding I switched back to the stock Chord supplied dual BNC cables. Tx!

First post. Long time reader but never registered.

Wanted to thank @Mike from SunCoast Audio for helping me acquire a new U1 Mini recently.

For U1 Mini owners who are going back-and-forth between all the connection options, I found USB to be better than S/PDIF Coax or Toslink into an RME ADI-2 DAC or Oppo 205. Since I don’t have an AES/EBU XLR connection to any of my DACs, I can’t speak to that connector. But, I found on some songs the S/PDIF coax and optical connections had an obvious and unpleasant digitalis and brittleness to the high mids, that was not present on the USB output. But that may be the low burn-in time. Regardless, out of the box, the USB from the U1 Mini to the RME ADI-2 DAC, driving headphones (Focal Utopia and Sony MDR-Z1R [the latter with hardware parametric EQ settings in the DAC to fix some design flaws]) is absolutely stunning!

As a head-fi guy, my stack is very modest (not having to buy expensive speakers and amps), and the U1 Mini fit right in. I’m so impressed with the USB output, but I wonder if I’m missing out (after some major burn in) on the AES/EBU output. From what I have read @wklie says to try AES and USB and see what you like the best. Anyone have experience trying out both of those options? Maybe I need a new DAC ;-) with native AES/EBU capabilities.

Cheers,
