Thanks for the review!
I currently have a D2 and love it but I've been wondering how much better the T2 can be for nearly double the price. I haven't been able to find any head-to-head comparisons of the two players. I'd especially like to know how the T2 betters the D2.
I can't be the only one that has considered upgrading since the introduction of the T2.
Tubes,
I've owned a T2 a year. Came from an Oppo Sonica. I also considered a D2. The Lumin T2 has a much better chip set and power supply with many trickle down features from the upper range of Lumin models. I was familiar with the D2 dac chips and knew they would not be as resolving or as tonally accurate and dynamic. I am very satisfied with this purchase
Would you say the mini with your own dac is better than the T2? Hardball question I know sorryI did this upgrade from D2 to T2, after making the order and while waiting I almost started to doubt if I made the right decision as I was very happy with my D2 at the time, but just plugging the T2 in and having a first listen it was quite obvious it that was performing on a completely different level. They do have different DAC chips though, the Wolfson chip in the D2 might give you a bit more warmth than the Sabre chip in the T2, but when it comes to details, bass, sound stage and just general performance, the T2 is a big step up that motivates its price difference I would say. AND, it's so much nicer looking as well!
Even though I have since then moved on to a U1 Mini with a separate DAC I still think the T2 is a great sounding one-box streaming product that a lot of people would be super happy to own. I actually had no plans at all to let go off mine, but then I was fed some ideas into my head which got my brain spinning and in the end I couldn't resist moving into another (much more costly) direction.
