Lumin L1

Hello wklie,

I have a problem with my L1.

I have connect the L1 to my Apple (USB cable): Luminserver is present on the "Finder": I have changed a folder present in the L1: some track into a unique folder. disconnect the L1 from the Apple.
L1 back to the S1: the music "changed" dont is present in the Lumin L1.
I have do a "update library " without succes AND THE MUSIC INTO THE L1 after 30-40 second play STOPPED!!!! no more music from speakers. Lumin App do away (music play but no sound from speakers!!!!!

offline or busy line ....

My dealer say me that I muss reboot the L1!

PROCEDURE TO RESET LUMIN L1
=====================

The following procedure tells the L1 to recreate its database from existing music in its HDD. Although this is not a format procedure and is not expected to cause data loss, having backup of your music is preferred.

1. Firstly, please connect the L1 to the computer via USB, and make sure the Trash is empty. Then safely remove the L1, then disconnect the USB.
2. Make sure USB is disconnected, and standby the L1
3. Unplug the power from L1
4. Press and hold the L1 power button
5. While still holding the L1 power button, plug in the power cord
6. Keep holding the L1 power button for about 30-40 seconds - during which observe the various LEDs blink. Keeping holding it until L1 finally stops blinking, or goes into Standby mode with red LED on.
7. Connect the L1 network cable (if it is not already connected)
8. If the red LED is on, press the L1 power button once to bring it online
9. After the L1 is online, please give it time to recreate the database (LED blinking).
10. Lumin app -> Settings -> Options under L1 -> Reload Music Library (If you have previously renamed the L1, the name is now reset to default)

I have save the L1 music into my NAS. (and with the NAS all play perfect)

now I go tray to reset the L1 (well do?????)

sorry but each new CD/folder saved in the L1 is not enough do a "update" for the "new" music find in the L1 library?

thank you for you reply.

best rgds

Please reset the L1 as per the procedure. It is really important to Empty Trash before disconnecting L1 from a computer - especially if it is Mac OS X.

If you can list the exact, detailed steps for "changed a folder present in the L1: some track into a unique folder", I'll try to see if we can reproduce the problem you experienced.

Hello wkliw,

i have reset the L1.

now he is commect to the router with a ethernet cable. the red light blinking....I wiat 5 minuts before go with the Ipad the reconned "update" the library in the App. CORRECT?

Hi Peter,
the L1 work again.
I have the "extra music" copied in the L1 but the single tracks without cover that I have "installed" in a folder (new folder from myself create) all together is not present and the single tracks from before that I have delede are always present in the L1 but in the NAS they are not present and here (NAS) i have the folder with inside all the tracks from above...

Lumin with SSD using USB cable vs Lumin with L1 all through Lan cable: which one will have better sound quality ?

The recommended usage of Lumin is using it together with the free MinimServer or L1.

While USB storage is supported, this way the music browsing flexibility is lower. I recall some users here reported that for sound quality they preferred network to USB HDD. I do not recall reading reports about USB SSD.

hello tane0019,

I use a Synology NAS 214play (with MinimServer) and L1.

SSD (Samsung EVO hard disk) dont' give you more quality sound vs. a "normal" HD.

me and my dealer too with the L1 plus Sbooster dont brings no improvement in sound quality.

from what I have listen and feedback from friend to have a very good improvement in sound quality invest your money with a power supply from Kenneth Lau. this PS give you a very great sound quality better vs. SSD HD, SBooster ecc...

this is my personal thinking... IMHO

best .

yes sbooster for the L1 that's right....-> is not expensive (300$ ca.in USA too?) but make not much sense.....

-> PSU for the Synology (sbooster) never tested but a friend have a LINN DSM (of course Linn work with NAS only) and he have tested with rj45 CAT6 and CAT7 and expensive rj45 cables.... quality is the same!
(long cable 4-5 meters!!) but is the same is you go use a expenseive rj45 able....(ex. audioquest Vodka or Diamond) -> a CAT7 is enough and invest $$ in a 4-5 meter Audioquest vodka ($. 500 ?! is so like that) dont give you nothing more in QS!!!)

Maybe if you have the router really near the S1 & L1 you can go with 2 x Audioquest vodka (0.75cm. or 1.5meters...) but that SQ stay really the same like using CAT7 cable..... maybe a very LITTLE better and is too important the quality of the tranks present on the NAS or L1!!!!) 2% better for 800$ cables?!?!?!

Personaly I will go purchase a sbooster for the NAS.....not much expensive and maybe give our a SQ improvement..... BU at first a Kenneth Lau PSU for the S1.....this leads to sure a SQ in Lumin unit!!!

1. If you can play music using D1 + L1 combo normally, then you're not doing anything wrong.
2. If you use a Mac, you must use the Mac Empty Trash function before safely removing the L1 USB from the Mac. Usually you will not see the trash folder.
3. We recommend placing the album art as a file named as folder.jpg in your music folder for an album.
4. No, L1 does not support connection to another USB drive for expanded storage.

Thank you for answer, what is the two USB in the back for ?
You meen the normal trash in my Mac, sorry for not understand this point.

Those are used for manual firmware upgrades and reserved for future uses (unlikely).

I have more rooki questions. I use Mac is it som program i can use to sort out my music and gett album covers when i have the L1 hockt on to my mac. Only some Album is shown as folder an the rest is showing like tis picture. I try to put jpg album art in this folder but its not showing in L1. I think it something i haven done right. ? And why dosent album art from my iTunes library show app in L1 when i move folder over. ?

When using Lumin app to browse music stored in the L1, each folder of album should contain a file named exactly as folder.jpg, unless the music files already have embedded cover art.

If you use Mac to browse the L1 connected as a USB HDD, I'm not 100% sure what are the exact requirements for the Mac to show the album art, but I guess it may require embedded album art for each of the file, see if any of these work:

You may also try some tag editor such as Kid3 to see if the album art is embedded correctly.

it´s look like its te Wav files that causing some "problem", the dont show ups like normal album under artist, i find them only under "songs". No info about composer and album. do i have to convert them ? and howe ?
Thanks for your answers .

You can try to see whether Kid3 can tag your WAV with proper artist and album art. If it is done successfully it should show up in Lumin app. However, I don't know whether Mac file browsing will show its album art - because tagging WAV is non-standard.

To be standard compliant, you can convert the WAV to FLAC (if you don't mind compression) or AIFF (if you dislike compression) using some software, then tag them properly.

I'm personally using a USB cable to connect my PC to my integrated amplifier, and streaming through Spotify as it is very convenient and I can use the app on my smart phone to remote control it from my couch.

What is the benefits from having L1's D/A1s and NAS compared to my current setup?

For me personally it sounds more inconvenient and old school that you have to transfer files to a server to be able through streaming devices to listen to your music instead of keeping it simple and plain by using a single cable?

Maybe there's something that I've not understood or seen.
