Lumin D2 v Aurender N100

So do you use your Chord Dave as your DAC in all cases? If so, you then have two streamers...I would have thought the Dave + the U1 would be amazing. Or are you saying that the Dave and N100 is as good/better?

Hello
I bought the Chord Dave to be used with auralic aries
I liked the sound , but I had the impression that the aries sounded better via AES
And USB is known to be a difficult approach
In the mean time , I had the opportunity to buy the Aurender n100H .. was quite pleased , it sounded good
But you know how this hobby is ..I just craved for the AES output
Bought the Lumin U1 , and since then I use it 100% for mqa , 70 % for all music
So rock tracks are streamed via the Aurender N100H (USB)
Mind you , the aurender is 40% the price of the Lumin .. so for money it is good
Cheers

AJR, what did you end up getting? And how's it treating you?

Hey AJR,
i have trialled the D2, T1 and the A1. In my honest oppinion the T1 is the go to Lumin. It has the same internal specs and separate power unit as the A1 but does not weigh as heavy. The price difference of $3000NZ does not justify the slight improvement in weight and control in the A1. Of course if money was not an issue the the A1 would be a definite consideration.
The D2 is also good value for money but does not get close to the others.
Naturally the Lumin is only one part of the mix as all other parts of the system are important to achieve the sound you wish to achieve. I am now totally satisfied with my sound and i appreciate that my wife allowed me to build a dedicated sound room in our new house which is now room treated and has helped significantly. It still doesn’t stop me tweaking though.
Regards Craig.

Hi kzhtoo and Craig. I ended up buying the T1. Totally agree with your comments. I tested the D1 and the T1 was far superior - it was noticeable immediately. I didn’t test the A1 and didn’t bother testing the Esoteric N-05 as I was very happy with the sound from the T1. Excellent value for money. I also bought some MIT IC and SCs. My system is purring now and I am very happy with it! Next rabbit hole is power...

Thanks Zaheer. Do you own a Lumin and if so are you enjoying streaming with it.

Hello
Yes
I have the Lumin U1 connected directly to Melco N1A via RJ 45
I use tidal quite frequently
In both cases , the Lumin U1 is a fantastic piece of kit
I also use the Aurender n100h with tidal
Cheers

Hi Zander,
I envy you owning the U1 as it is the ultimate Lumin. How do you rate it as a transport only and relying on another dac. Also how does it go v the Aurrender.

Hello
The U1 is really a fantastic piece of kit .. nothing to criticise about , Worth every penny , simple to use , clinical, but musical
The Aurender N100 is swwet , less detailed , but nice sounding
To be honest , no way to chose between the 2 , the u1 being in a differrent level of detail and soundstage
Then it's the price gap ..
if I had to buy a product , an all in one , i'd take the A1 ou S1 .. because of total mqa capacity
But for a DAC .. choice is not so easy
@craiH : which dac are u usiing ?
USB or SPDIf or AES ?

Cheers

Just ordered a d2, but wonder how much difference between d2’s bnc out and u1’s bnc out... i know u1 has more outputs, supports higher resolutions, has better isolation, and has better power supply. How about circuit/algorithm implementation?

I'll just keep my D1 along with the Kenneth Lau power supply its the bomb and to my ears equals the A1. Of course we all have opinions. Save the rest and buy cables and music.
