I was using the iPad 2 (The retina version) until last August. It worked fine with my modest music collections (1200 albums) from my QNAP NAS and fine with TIDAL and Qobuz.
It's definitely end-of-life though, so you may find a couple of generations newer to be supported by Apple longer.
I haven't looked at prices, but with a new 7th gen one only costing £290, I would assume there are lots available at around £100
Regarding Kazoo - I use it on my PC occasionally for controlling LUMIN works fine, but misses some of the aspects of the LUMIN App I love - it's more of a vanilla UPnP experience.
Either way, you'll need the LUMIN App for setting up your preferences, but it doesn't matter whether it's on Android or iOS, phone or tablet so most people now have a supported device.
