Lossless Streaming? Say hello to Tidal

I've sent a note to Li to see if they can build it right into the Lumin app. But Mike, try the streaming from the iPad Tidal app to the Lumin. Sounds great.

Yes it would be great if the Lumin app supports it. That app is great. I use it to control my Linn and grab music from Minim server. Now it would be really great if Lumin / Linn / Auralic start native support to their renderers. That way you would have to use the app only to browse through the Tidal online music collection and stream to the device directly. I cannot imagine why Tidal has not closed an agreement (for native support) with these companies as here is the major market for them.
I think we'll have good times ahead of us.

Follow this link and look at the option "Lumin Streaming" in the options menu:

LUMIN - Support How-to's & FAQ

Make sure it's set to "ON".

On your laptop/computer/Ipad, make sure "AirPlay" is enabled and choose the Lumin at the output option and run the Tidal app, choose your music and enjoy. Easy peasy! Just make sure the Tidal quality is set to "HiFi" on the app.

Joe..thanks a lot..it works perfectly...very impressed with the sound and functionality.i couldn't figure out where the volume control was for a while, on the app, but finally realized that the ipad volume control handled it ..thanks again..calloway

Hi Calloway,

I think if you set the volume on the Tidal iPad to "max" and adjust your volume via your system, you might get the highest fidelity. This is the way I do it and unless I need to quickly lower the volume, this seems to sound best.

Joe..thanks..unfortunately my system does not have a volume control. my Lumin goes directly into my SETs ....the ipad volume is not too bad actually..i can't wait for Tidalhifi to stream HD music..that will be fabulous.

Ah, I understand. Aren't you getting CD quality aka HiFi quality now? Check the options in the iPad app.

I don't know if it's just me?, but I could get pass the album photo quality on Tidal, and canceled within two minutes, maybe it's that graphic arts thing in me?, which picks up on little details like that?, o_oh well! life continues.........

Joe..yes I am..it is amazing..

Great, so happy for you.

Once I pick my music and make a playlist, my iPad gets put down and I just enjoy the music. I see the album art as just a quick visual que to the artist/music. I am hearing so much new music that I would otherwise never hear. Love it so far!

They have put the upgrades on the servers here, and I'm awaiting info on the iPad app. The final release versions are planned for later this year.

Their iPad app easily toggles between music stored locally and that from Tidal, so your playlists can include both. You can search on any field, including composer and conductor, which are important to classical music listeners. With Tidal streaming selected there are tabs to view recommendations, genres, moods, and new and recommended playlists.

I should have this to demo at least on the X100L at next Saturday's open house.
As of this morning all is in place and is working pretty well and as described.

I wrote to Tidal and asked them to support ASIO. Currently they don't and my DAC (Playback Designs) doesn't support WASAPI so I can't use the service.

Hopefully I'm not alone...

I'm having issues with the interface and features vs say Spotify. I think it'll come along nicely in time.

Joe,

I guess in hindsight, I should've tired putting the iPad mini down!, as it is the quality of the tracks that counts after all.

How do you delete the tracks on the lt side of the screen that you have played..?

I'll have to look when I get home. I forget if there is a trash icon or an "x" as you hover over the track. I'll check it out later, hopefully someone might be able to answer in the meantime.

just had a significant problem while playing 'Hotel California' in that i tried to stop the song by clicking on the center arrow and got a >100db white noise out of both speakers. i tried to stop it by the arrow but nothing would make it shut off. i finally had to turn off the Lumin at the power supply. don't know why that happened but i won't give it another chance to happen..i will stop the program...

That's one reason why I would opt for a preamp in the chain to prevent "software volume control" from being an issue.

+1. Lumin does NOT recommend you use the Lumin without a preamp. If you do, you do at your own risk.

Here is a thumbnail of one of the Aurender iPad app screen captures. Click on it to view the full collection of large images. Because this is not final some things may be changed, but you can get an idea of what they're doing.

Thank you for this informative post. Does the Aurender have a local song limit?
