Lossless Streaming? Say hello to Tidal

Telstra are already rolling out 4G+ in Australian CBDs which will push out up to 300Mbps. This has the potential to outstrip wired services. Lossless portable streaming is set to become defacto.

Update:

I just signed up for my Tidal subscription. Wow! It sounds awesome! Very noticeable improvement over Spotify and the others. I'm just trying to see how much music is available. I am not sure how track count compares. I think the monthly is $20. Seems worth it right now.

Good news, Joe! I'm awaiting notification from Aurender regarding updates of their server and iPad software to take full advantage. I had the privilege of experiencing WiMP (same thing as Tidal) on an X100L in their private room at RMAF. Remarkable.

+1. Great app. Incredible selection. Found most albums tested so far are Redbook quality.

Mike, Are you using the iPad app for Tidal and just selecting your lumin as the output?

Any chance this will be implemented into the lumin app?

Highly unlikely and kind of unnecessary if you think about it. The Tidal app is great....especially for their first crack at things.

Just use the Tidal iPad app and AirPlay. Works SUPERBLY for me.

Does anyone know if the Bryston BDP-2 will stream the Tidal service?

If you can hook a PC/Mac up to it, I can't imagine why not. But I don't know the product well enough. Maybe not??

What are you streaming to with AirPlay? Airport Express?

His Lumin A1.

Yes, I am using my Lumin A1. Sounds great. So far the best streaming quality.

If you are using a browser, I think the only requirement is Google Chrome. I think it needs flash.

For you guys who do streaming, are you using this as background noise, er, I mean background music or are you sitting down in your listening chair with your favorite beverage seriously listening to streaming music?

not sure why it costs 2x more than Spotify. should be the same price to be competitive. mainstream listeners don't know the difference?

I think it chews up more bandwidth and might cost more to serve the files as well. The step up is more than noticeable and well worth the extra to me. The average person will not know or care, but I think the target market is different.

Serious? Because of the quality. Users who don't want steak, can stick with hamburger. Tidal is a HiFi company (speakers, amps) - they made a tremendous effort in delivering what many of us audiophiles have wanted. Hi Res streaming.
