I just received my Roon Nucleus+ this afternoon. It is going back for another one due to a small part rattling under the main board, but that is another issue. The issue at hand is the marginal wall wart power supply which comes with this $2,500 box. I must get a better external power supply to replace it.

I’d appreciate any and all suggestions — particularly for 19vpV / 3.5 amp linear ones costing $500 or less.

Thanks!

I'm not a reseller of audio gear and promote no products, so take this with a grain of salt...I inserted a highly regarded LPS in place of the SMPS that came with my Innuous server and i could not hear a difference, even once the effects of alcohol induced listening bias wore off. YMMV and all that.

Hi Jon, I didn't intend to be the proverbial wet blanket and spoil your thread. The longer I remain in this crazy hobby the less i know. I'd find a mfr or dealer that offers a no questions asked refund if their LPS doesn't improve on the wall wart you already have.

I've also discovered that SMPS technology has come a LONG way in recent times, i wouldn't discount that as an option in spite of what zealots on Connaker's site say or anyone else. it goes without saying; let your own ears be your guide.

A number of laptops run at that DC voltage. Maybe a Dell laptop AC/DC supply would be a better option? 19 v is not a common voltage to find.

Hi,

I own a Roon Nucleus Plus and I purchased a Keces P8 Linear Power Supply and it sounds outstanding. The build quality is superb. I purchased it from Mike Bovaird at Suncoast Audio. It is a bit over $500 but well worth it.

I recently purchased an HDPLEX 200W linear power supply, and some Ghent Audio DC cables for my Nucleus Plus, SSD (connected to the Nucleus via USB) and network switch. The overall effect has been a nice improvement in my system. A good power cord will also make a difference.
There’s lots of discussion about power supplies on the Audiophile Style web site.

I have now been using my Teddy Pardo 19/3 linear power supply with the Nucleus+ for nearly three weeks. I cannot compare it to the standard switching power supply which comes in the box with the Nucleus+ because I never used that sps. However, the Nucleus+/Teddy Pardo combination connected directly to my Theta Casablanca IV via a Shunyata Venom HDMI cable, then via Transparent Audio cables to my Krell FPB-200C class A amplifier and on to my Revel Studio speakers delivers a sonic reproduction that is simply marvelous.

I forgot to mention the power components: Shunyata Venom HC from the wall to my Shunyata Denali 6000S and then Venom 14s to the Nucleus+ and the Teddy Pardo.

Are you saying you have an HDMI cable going directly from the Nucleus+ to the Casablanca IV?

Yes, I am. The Nucleus+ has the ability to stream multi-channel audio. By using its HDMI output and the HDMI cable to my Theta Casablanca IV, I can decode 5.1 tracks.

Ah, didn't know the Nucleus+ had an HDMI output. Nice.
