Lampizator Big 7 has landed

HDMI/I2, way off topic here guys.

There are some great new Golden Gate pics on the Lampizator.eu website. :lookatthat:

How quickly do the Polish guys turn around enquires?

Not so much Steve. It is an effort to see how practical the Lumin could be as a Transport for the Lampizator, especially if they come out with a lower priced Streamer only option. The info on the website is a bit sketchy as to exact specs.

Not sure about order lead times...you would have to ask that directly to Lukasz or Richard in Oz.

Mike, yes, the GG Dac is the top model in their line up.

Mike, I never have issues with either Windows or JRiver. If you need assistance with either I can help.

+1

When using a dedicated Windows machine, with Jriver beeing the only program installed, the server is basicly maintenance free. I'm running my headless (no monitor), everything loads by default even after you switch it off.

I belive the Jremote iPad app is on of the best.

The basic DSD- only can play DSD64 and 128.(Single and double rate). DSD256 is Quad rate.
Dont get that confused with dual mono DSD configurration, as that can be up to 128 or 256 as well.

So you will use a Mac...that means by definition you cant play above DSD128, as Core Audio will not permit more than that. only Windows can play DSD256 and above. Will you use JRiver, HQ Player or Audirvana+?

Sounds like you are all set...ENJOY!

Good to know. I will use audievana+. I like that program a lot.

I will have the Dac sitting right next to my turntable as a visual image of two generations cohabitating

There are indeed HDMI input Dacs out there. From the top of my head, I can name PSA Direct Stream and W4Sound Dac.

HDMI is just a cable format and can be configured to be many things and are not necessarily compatible with others. There is No universal standard of usage. The PSA standard is common to a few brands and they can be used to pass i2s Data stream and so do both PCM and DSD at whatever rates. I am not sure what pinout standard Lumin uses.

Yes, I am told that the Lumin is a very pain free user experience. However, for SQ I would like Mike to try out Adama's setup as I do hear its da bomb. Tricked out Caps in AO-Core mode, running HQP Polysinc upsampling filters to a great DSD Dac. I have pals in Monaco using a Exasound (in a similar setup0 who confirm the same thing Adam is saying, AL also confirms and he is not even upsampling...just JRiver with AO Core mode to his Lampi at native rate.

He certainly has my attention; particularly given the PCM side of his set-up is the Trinity (which he dumped the Diamond MSB to buy). I get the sense he has a good ear for digital.

This is a great solution. Now that Samsung have the 850 Pro SSD and HDPlex have the Linear PSU with the 250w head end, I'm ready to properly commission a W2012 R2 build when that PSU order arrives. I also have the updated SOtM V3 SATA filter coming. The older filter is now in my cable TV box!

So so you reckon W2012 R2 core mode drop is the way to go with JRemote accessing the service?

The first run which should be at minimum at CAPs V4 level, will be into the MCD1100 DAC (WW Platinum G7 USB) but I have my sites set on a fully balanced DSD only Golden Gate if I can manage an order.

An Ayre QA-9 would complete my digital aspirations. Pity Lukasz does not have an ADC solution also. A one box Golden Gate with ADC would be da bomb!

Steve, I am thinking a DSD only GG mated with the new caching Aurendar 100N (with the sweet USB set-up from the W20) might be the ticket. It is very minimalist (quiet) with no hard drive or outputs other than USB and a proven interface. It would require offline DSD conversion and up-sampling but I actually think that might be a good thing. The less going on in that box the better imo. It only does DSD 128 at the moment but 256 should come with time. The tough part would be finding a way to convert Tidal on the fly.

Win2012 with Audiophile Optimizer running in Core mode (5 to 7 processes instead of 1,000+ in Windows 8 and 350+ in stock Windows 2012), likely has LESS going on than the Aurender and given the quailty CAPs construction, the Motherboard selected (Xeon based or i7 top line stuff), I am sure its better than the average to lame Mobo in the Aurender. In know this as I have communicated extensively with AudioPhil and another Swiss Based ANALOG audio designer who I occasionally shoot the breeze with.

So for simple operation Aurender etc would be the way to go, but from absolute purity, I would bank of the bleeding edge CAPs implementation. Throw HQP on that for DSD on the fly playback and its game over.

No clue Mike, should be fine though, as would the Antipodes.

If Lukasz could get a SSR, he could do the HDMI i2s as well. He could also do the Lumin HDMI as well, depning on how it works and how easily it can convert the signal to i2s.

So if the Lumin HDMI output spits out HDMI protocol instead of i2s protocol it must be set up to stream movies??? Interesting idea, I can't think of why else they would do that. I doubt you will find many dacs that will ever want to see HDMI protocol so that makes DSD on it kind of moot, but it is a nice feature for home theater.

It doesn't stream video, just audio. The reason is simple. Native DSD is typically found via USB or HDMI or a variation there of, like i2s (which had died a slow death all but a couple of years ago). To get native DSD out of the Lumin, HDMI was chosen. USB was not selected due to the constant USB driver issues.

Łukasz has posted new images of the main PCB, including the underside, which is not visible without dissassembling the dac:

Adam - thanks for posting. Looks great. I'm looking forward to your impressions.

I see. Thanks Mike.

It would be cool if Lumin could pass video. In looking at the HDMI license site, Pixel Magic appears to have paid their fee's for HDMI for their magictv products. So they could provide video in the Lumin if they wished, About Magic TV?

Very good point. But I'm not sure how the heck you would get video content on the Lumin app. Guess they would have to add that too.

OK...back to the Lampizator.

One evening with Big7 ....

Marcin,

I see you were using your Reimyo transport.

Did you have a chance to listen to some DSD files (native or upsampled) via the pure DSD engine ?
