It felt like a morning for some vintage tubes...

As always...it just sounds right.

Oh, and full Western Electric's in the amps. Vintage RCA's in the preamp.

I sold my balanced Golden Gate and will be ordering a single ended version (something like Mike and Ken just received).

In the meantime I was able to get a Lumin S1 and have a NAS setup. I also have a DAC in my C52 preamp with a Wyred 4 Sound modified Sonos for the "background" music sessions.

Joe, pardon the curiosity but I could have sworn you had a Lampizator at some point? What have you moved on to?

I just want to keep the tube count down. The performance of the balanced GG is phenomenal but I am just trying to simplify my system.

Why did you move to SE? No real need for balanced?

I have been planning to give the Lampi another long listen like I did last year at Axpona. Can any users provide an update on the Lampi "Rice Krispies." Have the snap, crackle and pops finally been eliminated.

Sorry. I just got a GG. Haven't heard any of that. On the other hand, one of my tube amp whines on start up. Mind me asking when and what lampi you were listening to where that occurred? Oh, I do sometimes here a little something when the lampi switches to DSD. Outside of that it is quiet.

I was referring to complaints from users; I believe when switching formats and I am not sure when else. I just know it was a problem that some complained about with the GG on down.

Hi Paul,

I know that Lukasz has been continually working on these sorts of issues and the latest versions are supposed to be materially improved from the earlier models. Of course, if you get the Lumin U1, you can upsample everything to DSD, so transitions from PCM to DSD files and vice versa will be seamless.

If we are talking switching formats, there is a slight noise/distortions that can be noticeable on mine switching formats. I got one afew weeks ago. Nothing approaching a pop or anything like that. So i guess he has improved it. Understandable given you are essentially switching DACs when you switch format.

I guess the question is, if you where listening at fairly high levels and you change formats while forgetting to cut the volume, would you anticipate it being a problem for the speakers, system, etc.??

No it wouldn't (at least on mine). If I am not paying attention for it, I probably wouldn't even notice it. Not really a noise as much as a slight distortion. If song starts softly or less, you won't hear anything.
