It seems like we have enough folks now with the balanced Big 7 that maybe we could start a comparison thread to the Big 7 SE. If you've listened to both, please describe any differences you are hearing.

Thanks!
Ken

I heard both in different systems. I have to say both sound amazing. I'd love to do a side by side comparison.

From what I have read the biggest difference (and possibly affecting sonics) is the inability to roll as many different types of tubes in the balanced.

Hi Le Roy,

If I decide to get a Lampi DHT DAC, I will go with the SE because of more tube rolling choices and the ease and lower cost of getting a matched pair of DHT tubes vs. a quad matched set. For me, the tougher decision would be the customized Big 7 vs. the Golden Gate. Golden Gate owners have indicated that the GG delivers more detail, while Big 7 owners have indicated that the B7 is more musical.

That seams like a good choice. The way I understood Lucasz, his balanced amps are most definitely superior to his single ended because they put less demand on his power supply (the two signals being out of phase with each other) which made a lot of sense to me. But as a source component I can't see how that would make a difference. Also, if you are going to keep the 520 it should mate nicely single ended. You are going to be rockin soon!

Can't comment on the detail of the GG. But the Big 7 SE is very musical. DSD heaven!
