KEF LS-50 ... A true little gem

Love mine in my second system. Easily 3x performance based on price.

Just picked up a pair on Tuesday and am running them in. Sure like them better than the Harbeth P3ESR's that I had. Been comparing them to the pair of Dynaudio X12's that I gave my wife. The KEF's are the better speaker and the X12's are a nice little speaker. The LS50 on the other hand truly break new ground at the price point.

I am going to use my air tight ATC 2 preamp and ATM 2 amp with Velodyne dd15+ sub to drive these next time I at my bend home. I think the solid state cj350 isn't doing justice to the midrange and holography these are capable of. I think tubes may do the trick.

I got a pair to go in my compact system. I have very limited space, but always loved my KEFs that I used to own years ago. They arrived two days ago... all I can say is wow... AMAZING, from soft to loud, from rock to vocals... sound stage, transparent, open image speaker, best I have ever heard. And the bottom end, honestly is startling.

My McIntosh compact system drives them fantastically, and gets louder than I could ever want to listen to them... but oh so smooth!

I was considering the blue speaker version to go with the McIntosh, but felt that the blue looked darker so decided to go with the original colors :)...

I have a pair of Frosted Black and Racing Red coming soon! Frosted Black, goes better in the Bedroom system I have planned for them

...but Racing Red is, RED!

Cool setup. What are the nifty little speaker stands you have there?

bump,

Show of hands, who has or still have their KEF LS50's? I have a pair coming next week in Grey.

Since their release; I have owned (at various times...not all at once), 2 pairs of Black, 1 pair of White...and currently a pair of Black Frosted.

Ah, yes. Frosted black is awesome too. Nice.

I am amazed how many times I see these little speakers mentioned... reviewers are testing other equipment using the LS50s, people talking about matching up the Job amp with them, etc. I am truly amazed how often they get mentioned now that I am paying attention.

It is so nice to see that my old favorites have a speaker that appears to be taking the market by a storm!

You get yours yet Joe?

BTW- Conrad Johnson told me today that the store that advertises on Amazon bought the entire run of Classic 2 pre-amps.... I am soooo up in the air right now.... You could send me a CJ to listen to for a while to help in the decision :D....

Ha!

You're funny. ;)

I hope to pick up my LS-50's tomorrow, if I can take the day off. My Klipsch RP-160M's should be here Thursday. This is getting fun.

If I sent you my GAT, you'd be stuck to the ceiling and someone would have to peel you off. :)

Once you got back down, you'd immediately send me a paypal gift. I really don't want to do that to you.

Every piece of CJ gear comes with a 3-pack starter of Depends.

Spearit Sound is a good dealer and tight with CJ. Since you are getting the attenuators, it will most certainly be a great combo methinks.

Yea, now I got to get the wife to accept.... she was not real with it when I brought it up last night.... even when I said I could get a couple grand more from the McIntosh than a new pre would cost me... I think she wants me to settle for a bit.... Now if I had the Mc sold well that might make a difference.... the thing is the Mc sounds incredible and is an amazing piece, just would work better using it to it's fullest instead of my not using anything but about 20% of it's abilities...

If someone made a reasonable offer for this 2 month old piece that retails for $6000 I would probably take it because the CJ would probably fit my setup better... but dam, that McIntosh is gorgeous... and growing up in Binghamton (Yes weird eh, I grew up in the shadow of the Mc factory)... I am having all kinds of conflicting emotions going on :D...

Oh Randy, you really are like us, me especially. I know exactly how you feel.

I think crack is less addictive than audio gear.
