I am interested in a pair of Kef 107 speakers. I found a pair which have had the crossovers rebuilt with Jantzen caps instead of the caps from Falcon. any idea what this will do to the sound quality as compared to the rebuild being done with the Falcon caps. Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,
Sam

The Jantzen's are film caps vs the stock caps which are electrolytics, I would think it's a step up. The pics online show the stock crossovers filled with electrolytics and iron core inductors. Using them for the lowpass filter (bass drivers) isn't necessarily a detriment, upgrading to air core chokes and film caps would be superior for the mids and highs.

Which KEF 107 are we talking about - this Reference 107, or the more recent but not top-of-the range 107?

I can't answer your question about crossover mods, but do the 107s you're considering come with the KUBE "active low-frequency equaliser"? This can be used as intended, but I must admit I didn't include these KUBEs in my system. They require extra unbalanced cables and I heard no real advantage in using them.

These 1980s Reference 107's were exceptionally good speakers and the Stereophile review described them as "an engineering marvel and, by a clear margin, the best full-range conventional speaker money can buy."

Yes, they are great speakers and should still be a match for most modern speakers, but they need a carefully matched amplifier with high current delivery capabilities.
