Just Arrived...

Paul

It is very likely that they made periodic crossover tweaks over the many year lifespan of the 40.1. Whether parts on the board or even just different wire. During the life of the original Vandersteen 2CE Sig there were eight revisions. All sounded slightly different. Probably accounts as with many brands for the sale of speakers in predetermined pairs.

Jack. That makes sense. I never thought about it. Thank you :)

I do have to admit that I never had my first M40.1 in current listening room. Which is double the size of my old room. I'm sure thats one of big part of my experiment .

P.S : also no more McIntosh ;)

Paul, what are you using to drive the 40.1 and what are your thoughts about them again?

Joe , Forgot to answer your question. Hope Sean don't mind the pics of mine on his thread :)

Mike,I've never owned Harbeth so I can't do any comparision.
For Spendor, I owned A6 and currently own 1/2R2(sub flagship model in the Classic range).
In short, rolled off highs, slightly lifted mids, gentle bass, very forgiving sound and comforting.
You've never heared Spendor? Surely you must have.;)

After months of auditioning speakers to replace my Totem Fire monitors, I selected a pair of the new floor standing Focal Sopra No2's. I received them about two weeks ago, put about 100 hours on them at a lower volume for "break in" and am really enjoying my new toys!

During my search an audio salesman asked me if I prefer "analytic" or "musical" sounding speakers, interesting question, my answer: "musical". I would place the Harbeth's in that category. In the other category I'd place the Magico's and Wilson's I also auditioned, makers of excellent speakers, but one's which I found tiring to listen to for longer periods. I did spend a sufficient amount of time auditioning the Super HL5's and found them to be very easy to listen to for long periods. I just was blown away by the detail, power, dynamics and sound stage of the Focal's.

PS Audio P10 Power Plant, PS Audio DirectStream DAC, Autonomic MMS-5A Media Server, McIntosh MC452 Power Amp, McIntosh C50 Pre-Amp, Focal Sopra No2 Speakers, JL Audio F113V2 Sub Woofers (2), Wireworld Cables.

The pic is blurry, and I don't care. I can't wait to play some music through these bad boys. :D
Next time please take a moment and scale down such images before uploading them. No one needs to nor can view a 5472x3648 pixel image at full size. 20% or less would have been fine and would be a small fraction of the 17.24 MB image posted.

Thank you. Good luck with the speakers.
