Jumping into the Lampy Pond w Big 7 SE

Hi Le Roy,

Interesting!

I replaced my split LS with the Curious.

Best,

Jim

Hi Jim, you'll notice two things happened there. Curious pulled out and the galvanic isolator was also pulled out in the same maneuver as putting in the Lightspeed. So it wasn't exactly a controlled experiment.

I am just starting to learn the benefits of using the Ethernet connection to the soulution DAC. Still figuring it out thru JRiver but it is working now. When I'm not fiddling with the Network connection I'm using the Curious cable. When the Lampi Big 7 comes in I'll be running that thru the Lumin U1 I bought from Mike.

Listening to my Lampi BIG7 with 300B, Aurender through AudioQuest Diamond USB cable...Love the sounds. I do not want to hear any more DAC/Digital set up.

Me too. I have two GG's, and a DAC 7 LITE. I have stopped looking for better digital. Happy camper !!

The only downside to Lampi is it takes the audiophile out of you (the guy who swaps and searches). I got so bored with digital I have started investigating vinyl, which I had sworn to stay away from, but got to keep the hobby going

Ked - you can continue the "audiophile" with Lampi more than any dac since the concoction of tube combinations is endless.

Today was the day. The Lampi Big 7 landed late yesterday. This morning I spent some time behind the rack re-arranging things for the Big 7. Now I see why it is called the Big 7. It is big!

Rewiring complete. Around noon today took the plunge into the Lampi pond.

Now I see what all the shouting is about! :exciting:

I've got maybe 5-7 hours on the tubes. The instructions that come with the Emission Labs 45 Mesh Globes tell you not to use the tubes more than four hours at a time in the beginning to prolong tube life. I know next to zero about tubes. But what I hear so far I'm loving.

Mike recommended and ordered for me the Big 7 single ended set up. This I'm told gives you more choices for tube rolling down the road.

I've heard tube set ups before but never really felt the love whether it was tube amps or pre-amps. I was skeptical about what tubes could do for a DAC but now I'm a believer.

The romance, the mid-range magic, the trance that sets in -- its all there -- in an over the top fashion!

If its this good with less than 10 hours I can't wait to hear what it sounds like after 100 hours.

My comments apply especially to DSD but PCM is surprisingly good as well.

Mike, thank you for pointing me in this direction. This is real musical engagement!

I'm a happy man!

Hi Le Roy,

Congrats on your brand new customized Lampi B7! It didn't take long for you to become immersed in the Lampi DHT magic. :D

Enjoy,
Ken

Hi good to hear. I normally face a post purchase dissonance when I buy hifi goods. I think I made a big mistake and should have held out for something better on the used market. This especially happened when I bought the Lampi as it was direct from a dealer, so not a bargain. But then unlike other products the longer I own it, the better it gets and makes me happy. Not only will your dac sound better in 6 months, when you see what some tubes and tweaks can do, you will be delighted even more.

Le Roy,

While I am not surprised by your feedback, I am overjoyed to read it. Particularly knowing the caliber of equipment which was already occupying your system. A good friend of mine has had sever Lampis in his Raidho D3 based system and I can tell you his sound is phenomenal as I'm sure yours is as well.

Congratulations on your purchase. I hope it brings you many years of enjoyment.

Best,

Fred A.

And you can also use a Corning optical USB cable or else use a USB isolator/Regenerator before it like the Intona and/or Uptone Audio USB regen. :congrats::celebrate008_2::snicker::roflmao:

Currently using the Curious USB cable. I have the Uptone Regen but I haven't inserted into the chain yet. Too dumbfounded to move.

Too dumbfounded to move.

It has that affect. In a sea of sameness, it's truly unique and special. And just think, yours isn't broken in and you haven't even begun to roll tubes. 300b's, 101D's, 2A3's, 422A's, 5U4G's, GZ34's and many many more....oh my....

LeRoy, try a pair of those Psvane Replica 101D's --> http://psvanetube.com/wordpress/sto...ectric-101d-101d-l-replica-vacuum-tubes-pair/

You don't want the long-pin. Just the regular 101D. You can email Rachel at Grant Fidelity at: [email protected] tell her you want a pair of the Psvane Replica 101D's.

They are terrific for classical IMO. Amazing separation and spatial authority. Dynamic too. The right tube for classical.

300b's are amazing, if you are listening to this kind of music because they absolutely nail male/female vocals & acoustic guitar:

Thanks Mike. I'll have to check out all of those tube choices. I can't imagine it getting better. I'm glad I listened to you on taking the plunge!

Hearty congrats.

Way to start out with some Holy Grail DHT tubes! Now to introduce you to the metal base GZ34 and the double Mica 5r4gy and the WW2 pre-1947 RCA 5r4gy rectis. Or you can shell out for vintage WE 274Bs or Takatsuki modern 274B. Rectis are a BIG deal interim of tuning the sound.

I warn you now... stay clear of GG Dacs in case you get bitten by the upgrade bug.
