Certainly great advice. Bruce and I want to go back to Audio Connection and listen to the Vandy again.

Joe

I tested the Treo a couple of weeks ago without the subs and using the JOB. They passed easily on the Stereophile disc at the 31.5 db point. Mostly port noise at 25 hz, so JA's test at 29hz is probably correct. I use the two Vandersteen subs because I have them and it takes pressure of the JOB. On their own the Treo's are fine. Might want to go listen at either Audio Connection or Audio Nexus before you commit to the Strad's at many times the cost. Plus a bonus is that if you don't like them you can resell. I have never seen a pair of Treo's for sale used and I looked. I understand impatience, I am just like that.

Joe

I don't know anything about the guys at Audio Nexus. After my Vandersteen dealer friend got out of the business I always dealt with John. They may however have a better listening situation at Audio Nexus so I would call and talk to them. If you want to deal with John, which I understand, make sure he can give you the opportunity to hear the Treos at their best. Since it ways so little take the JOB with you. The Treos perform way above their price range. If you want "more detail" you can order it with the Carbon tweeter from the 5A, but I didn't.

Never heard them either. I think you may be correct.

So far Sonus Faber Strads take the top spot.

Me think you should have a look into the Focal, Joe.. I was really impressed by them, I'm debating I might take the plunge on the Diablo Utopia or Scala..

Probably another month to 6 weeks at least. I just got the word today that it will be 2 more weeks for the woofer baskets to arrive at Harbeth, then onto manufacturing, and shipping. So needless to say, I'm a little bummed.

Any word on the 40.1's?

Joe Have you ever thought about the Canterbury ? If you like your M40.1 Please don't forget to demo the Canterbury in your home. If you like the M40.1 You will love the Canterbury as well. :)

Hi Paul,

I could be persuaded to try Tannoy. Canterbury looks nice. I need to study the differences in speakers.

Sorry to hear about the wait Joe.

As much as you liked the 30.1's, the 40.1's may be a speaker that you have for a long time. You have the amps to drive them and, just thinking out loud here, could be the speaker for your basement system. Then get a really nice pair of easy to drive monitors for your room now and power them with a nice integrated. Just kicking the tires here...

Thanks Doug. If the 40.1's follow in the footsteps of the 30.1's (and I think they will), I believe the 40.1's WILL be keepers. So I have no plans on getting rid of them. In fact, I am also waiting for the new Super HL5+ speakers to become available. I plan on ordering them too. As much as I appreciate everyone's suggestions, Strads are in my blood and I will finalize the order within two months. :) I need to get them hooked up to my CJ gear. For me, I think that's the ultimate combo.

Heard good things about the new DOT7 Maggies with matching subs. Total price below $2k, so very inexpensive.

Or you can just GUNN an older 1.6, but that will cost a lot more.

I'll be curious how the 40.1 bass works for you. I don't know much about these speakers to be honest and just read the Stereophile review- seems very room dependent, but great sound once it fits.

Hi Keith,

I think the 40.1's will be awesome. Having the little extra bass energy of the 40's will be welcome in my room. Harbeth's have a great sound and I'm really looking forward to getting them, eventually.

Joe- once you get the strads, if you decide to switch back to m30.1,i can offer you a nice trade on a slightly used pair of 35th anniversary in rosewood. Oh they used to be yours . stands should be here tomorrow from amazon- hoping they will work may have to put some weight on the bottom shelf but otherwise should be ok. still enjoying them ,when the room is not too warm
