Clayton has tested with good success at 2 feet. 3 feet is preferred and anything more (i.e. 5 feet) is ideal. I will be close to 6 feet in my room. The three inch thickness of the Spatial speakers helps. I can't wait!

I'm hoping to get a impedance curve later this week. Photos in the next two or three weeks.

Richard at Aum, sells and really likes the Elac 407. Nothing written about it in this country, but great reviews in Europe.

I compared the Elac 312 and the 403 , both are bookshelf speakers
Still preferred the 312
The 403 is the smaller brother of the 407

I always find the journey is more interesting than the destination
Keep trying out new gear

Never heard them either. I think you may be correct.

So far Sonus Faber Strads take the top spot.

Joe

I've never heard Focal's only read dozens of reviews about them. Aren't they on the TAD side of neutral?

Soup nazi says go Japanese. Full audio note kondo system right down to speakers.

good news *L* there are a pair of tannoy canterbury gr for sale- just in case you want something really different and happen to have a spare airplane hangar to set them up in

The Strad's sound like a great option. If your up to the built in subwoofer thing, you still might want to get a better listen to the 5A Carbons or if you don't want the subs listen to the Treos. A different direction might be to see what Mike thinks of the Spatial Luminas'. They could be an answer for less outlay.

Hi Jack,

Not too crazy about a subwoofer because I don't think I need it. The Statements look very interesting but I am not sure how much longer I want to wait. My 40.1's are still coming and asked my dealer for an update. Still waiting.

I tested the Treo a couple of weeks ago without the subs and using the JOB. They passed easily on the Stereophile disc at the 31.5 db point. Mostly port noise at 25 hz, so JA's test at 29hz is probably correct. I use the two Vandersteen subs because I have them and it takes pressure of the JOB. On their own the Treo's are fine. Might want to go listen at either Audio Connection or Audio Nexus before you commit to the Strad's at many times the cost. Plus a bonus is that if you don't like them you can resell. I have never seen a pair of Treo's for sale used and I looked. I understand impatience, I am just like that.
