Hope your order is already in for the super shl5- should make for a nice christmas present in 2015 *L*

An order for Super HL5 Plus in rosewood has already been placed :) I'm hoping the same ;)

just as an aside Joe, are your pictures (for work) taken digitally or is film still used?

It's all digital now, starting officially sometime in 2006.

When I left the "business" 10 years ago they were starting to transition to digital. On "major scenes" they still took both just to combat the "AH" defense attorney's claims of possible manipulation. The film and processing materials can be a major budgetary issue.

We've had some challenges. As long as chain of custody is maintained and all "enhancements" in photoshop are intact, we're good.

I assume my department is the same by now, but when I walked away, I walked away. Never been back in the building even though my younger brother is still there. 46 years of exposure to that stuff was enough for me. The budget concerns would have had to make them go completely digital by now.

New digital cameras can get very expensive and equipment is treated very rough by most of the department, except crime scene. Repairs can cost more than the camera in most instances so we win in some areas and lose in others. It feels great to catch the bad guy, but sometimes justice is not swift enough. :(

Joe-
your strads are waiting for you on agon. just listed @ 1/2 price...... decisions, decisions

Thanks Alvin.

Well the next speakers are the 40.1 Harbeth. I think SF Strads are after that, but I have no intention of selling the 40's, unless they are terrible, which I doubt :)

I love the way you are looking out for me :)

Joe
It will be interesting to see what you think about the 40.1's. I was discussing them with the local dealer who carries the Harbeth line. He says they are nowhere near as accurate or full range as his other top lines (Magico & Vivad are two of them) yet people come in a just love their sound. They also are easier to drive with a variety of speakers.

I'll been waiting 3 months next week for the 40's. There seems to be some parts problems. If I can cancel the order without problem, the Strads are next. I don't think I need accurate. I want musical, fun speakers.

well @ 200 lbs, the shipping is probably as much as he is asking for the speakers anyway!Seems to me that if you have room for the strads ,then a pair of tannoy might fit *L*

It sounds like you are looking at the right speakers. They say they put a smile on many buyers faces.

having lived with the 30.1 for all of a week or so,i can see where even the 40.1 may not be the most detailed speaker out there, but what it does play comes thru extremely well, full range probably is more room dependent than my room would allow for anyway. So the 30.1 is working out very well me

Rich,

The 30.1 are awesome but I'm obsessed about Strads. I need the scratch that itch.

Joe,
Since a few weeks, I saw a few movies and BR's with the 40.1. Not only they are extremely resolved and accurate but their dynamics and realism is out of this world. They load the room in a unique way. Using them in HT makes the actors come out of the screen and be with us in the room.
I never listened to a more accurate speaker.
Stay still. You won't regret it.

I'm really happy with the 30.1s. I always wondered, why they were so much more than Compact 7s; and I really thought the 7 was the sweet-spot in the Harbeth line-up. But now I see why; IMO, the 30.1...though smaller...is punchier, and more dynamic.

cd- glad to hear that, as it is difficult for me to audition speakers (or any equipment),i bought them more on faith and reading than anything else and quite frankly the price (even used) was scary to me- definitely preferred the price of the 7's but did not want to keep looking for something better (although i wish i could keep trying new equipment). I think the 30.1 will keep me satisfied for a very long time. ps as an aside to joe- if you ever do get the strads but decide you would rather have 30.1 - well i would consider a trade *L*

Joe -
Oh where oh where can my 40's be, oh where oh where can they be (you know the tune).Have you heard anything about a delivery?Certainly hope so!

Hi Rich,

From all that I can tell, the 40.1's are still several months out. I'll leave it alone for now but in the meantime, I am ordering the Strads. It's time!
