Pretty cool piece. Been looking for a minimalist preamp that still had a remote. Arrived fast considering it shipped from Switzerland. Got it In like 3 business days. Amazing. Nice build.

So how it sounds ?

well, I've only had it for a few hours, but it sounds great so far. I've been using a primaluna preamp which I love but I wanted to try this job because I've been looking for a minimalist solid stare preamp with remote for a long time and I wanted to see if it would squeeze out even more transparency from my system. The PL was already excellent. All I can say so far is that the job is at least equally transparent as the PL preamp and that the job has cleaner tighter bass. Imaging is also really good. I feel like I'm getting a more stable image with the speakers disappearing more. But some of the texture and richness the primaluna was bringing is reduced. That's to be expected from a solid state vs a tube preamp.

How do you like the Wyred's version of the ICE modules sound? I have the STP-SE and have thought about trying either one of their amps or integrated amps.

My first wyred product was their sti-1000 integrated amp. I loved it. All I can say is that I have a reputation for being a shameless box swapper but the wyred gear has stayed longer than anything else in the past 5 years. If you can get past the audiophile bias against class D, it's superb gear. IMO class D amps are the best bang for your buck in high end amplifiers. Sound competes with class AB amps I've owned that ran twice the price. And it's as good as the very best of em.

Ummm, this job preamp is starting to sound pretty special now. Might be the beer ear talking, but...wow...getting some killer sound now.

I - and no doubt others - would be very grateful for detailed descriptions of the sonic character of the JOB Pre2. In particular, more about the comparison between the Prima Luna Prologue (which I know) and the Job.
Do you have the impression that the quality of the interconnects will make a noticeable difference? Were you using any XLRs in your setup prior to receiving the JOB? If so, what differences - if any - have you noticed so far? Sorry for all the questions

Does it sound good at low volumes?

sounds superb at low volumes. I think the PL preamp requires a bit more juice to sound it's best, not so with this pre2 IMO. Really enjoying moderate volume levels right now. Sound is crystal clear. I know it's cliche but it's not showing any edginess right now as far as I can tell. But it's for sure a smidge more up front then the PL which works fine in my system. Cymbal decay is better on the PL though.

will continue to post my impressions.

The primaluna preamp is all RCA so I was not using any XLRs. Don't put much stock in XLR being superior anyway. Have never been superior when I've used them in my systems in the past. I don't have any long IC runs though. And I really like my RCA interconnects which are made by "the chord company".

Let me get some more seat time under my belt and I will post further impressions. I will also switch the PL back in to see if I'm struck by the difference. The PL is no slouch but obviously a very different design.

Oh, it was silly of me to inquire about XLRs when in fact I knew that the PL is single-ended. My query is a sign of my uncertainty about purchasing the JOB pre2 when my two major sources are well wired with XLRs. Unlike you, I do notice the difference with XLRs in my system. Anyway, I'll wait for your further impressions. Thanks!

Did JOB provide you any specifications of the pre-amp ?

Can you take a picture of the rear panel

No, I just bought it on spec. based on the credibility of the Job amp and the backing of goldmund. I felt it was a risk worth taking. It ticked all my boxes, solid state, respected manufacturer, minimalist design, modest size, remote control, factory direct, bargain price. I don't know of another preamp that fits the bill so well.

Not at home now so I can't take a pic. Rear panel is very simple. Has a fuse, a switch for voltage, IEC mains connector, 3 sets of RCA inputs, 1 set of RCA outputs. That's it. And as far as I can tell, there is no power button. It's always on.

Ok thanks

To CPP ... if you have the time to scroll back through the other - imposing - thread devoted to the JOB 225 amp someone did post technical specs of the preamp forwarded to him from JOB. I took a shot at it, but ran out of time and patience )-:

Some more job pre2 impressions. I've been doing a bunch of a/b testing comparing my primaluna prologue premium preamp to the job pre2. First off, I've owned many preamps and among the ones I've owned, these are both stars. Although they are both priced for the budget conscience audiophile, they compete with the preamps I've owned that sell for more than double this price range. So no need to spend more. There is no question that the job pre2 wins in the area of presence and transparency. The human voice is superbly reproduced with every tiny nuance communicated. All those minute audible cues that really good recordings contain are crisply and cleanly audible. The clarity is superb and addictive. Love it! However, the primaluna sounds a bit more 3 dimensional. The job pre2 sounds just a smidge flatter to me. The primaluna has a harmonic richness that is seductive. The bass is also noticeably richer and lusher on the primaluna. Which is nice on some bass light material but can be an unwanted addition on bass heavy material. I suspect that the bass is more accurate with the job pre2. Here's what I can say for sure the job pre2 is a superb first class solid state preamp. It provides jaw dropping transparency (if the rest of your gear is up to it) without hardness to the sound. It's very very good. For the asking price it's ridiculously good.

Hello jax. Thanks for the review!

Just wondering if you are using the Job Pre2 to the Job225 or a different amp?

Also which one do you like better PL or Job pre2 in your set up?
