JOB 225 2-channel Power Amplifier ... update ...

Welcome ls35a,

Do you know the specs on the Quads?

Joe

When that speaker was in production the recommended amp by Quad was their 15wpc Quad II amp. If I remember correctly they prefer current over watts.

You could easily blow up the 57s with the power of the Job amp.

Your right as you could with most high power amps, but with moderation of the volume control it would work with the right preamp. High gain models need not apply.

If you want to hear the 57s at their best, listen to them with the tube amps that were designed to be used with them.

Twenty years ago Quad devised what they call a 'clamping board' which limits the amount of voltage the panels can see.

So it's not how much power, it's how stable into a load whose impedance varies pretty drastically by frequency.

It's hard to predict what will work. The Belles amps...no. Heed? Yes. Rogue Sphinx, yes, some small class A amps (I'm looking at YOU, Monarch) no.

The Sweetpee AC cable sucks!! Go buy a good AC cable for the Job.

I bought Gary's old Sweetpee and had it Cryo'd along with my Itube. What a difference that made. The Sweetpee now is easily 2 notches better in the SQ than before, more detail and bigger soundstage while more natural sounding. The Ttube is easily 3-4 notches better. That was the best 20 bucks I ever spent for a tweak.

Another trick that helps break in is to get the adapter & put it inline on the refrigerator cord for a couple weeks .. or you could beg borrow or appropriate a cable cooker .. but everybody has a frig .. :audiophile:

Re: One More Happy Customer!!

Allen, Besides the blacker background, are there any other parameters where the JOB betters the Rowland, dynamic excitement, detail/transparency, woofer control/bass accuracy, treble extension/air? I wouldn't expect it to be overall better, but it might sneak in a small victory somewhere. Has anyone used speakers with low impedance dips that test the JOB's claim of "unconditional stability, it can drive anything"? The little amp that could is gaining traction as an unbelievable value, I look forward to many more new owners posting their findings as their JOB 225s break in.

Where did JOB claim 'unconditional stability, it can drive anything'?

I didn't see anything like that on their webpage.

The Jobs webpage just got updated with a pic of the new preamp.

I can't post a link because I don't have ten posts but google is your friend.

The new JOB Pre2 is a minimalist Preamplifier fully designed as a complement of the JOB amplifiers for those who use only analogue sources.
In order to maintain both an extreme musical transparency and a reasonable price, the JOB Pre2 has been designed with no gimmick, no unnecessary feature but the most advanced analogue line stage we can design. With only 3 line inputs, a potentiometer-less volume control, ultra-simple remote and an elegant look and finish matching the JOB 225 power amplifier, the JOB Pre2 is allowing to maintain the phenomenal sound quality of its sibling amplifier without alteration in your system.

Thanks, Joe.

When I was at this webpage last week the preamp had a 'add to cart' button next to it and now it's a 'view cart'.

So.... are these for sale or not? Anyone ordered one?

Yes, I think Yami and another friend of mine bought one. I think a handful of members here ordered one also.

They are hand assembled & shipped from Geneva and produced in small quanities / batches .. when they have a batch ready for sale, they then allow sales via paypal and then disallow sales when that batch has been sold. Friday early Geneva time is when the sales usually begin, and depending on supply & demand, sales will end in hours or days until the next round. Pre2 sales were available for a time this last Friday until the production run was sold .. several were ordered by members here!

I think many owners of 225 job received an email friday as me to be informed that the preamplifier 2 was available and as production is fairly small it is quickly out of stock.
