Jay's Audio Journey

hi jay
as a little feedback: your recent videos are excellent!!
really got used to you and i enjoy every single video. great how you put things into correlation.
thx a lot, it is outstanding entertainement!

cool, waiting for the evening.

i would take the subwoofers out of the room, they are overfilling the space imho and might interfere bassabsorbingwise.

i hope you try the audionet heisenbergs one day. in my experiance these are the uber synergy amps with wilson audio.

since you are streaming....2 phoenixNET in serie with shunyata omega digital cables and wilson pedestal footers!
the wilson footers are not to compare with anything like stillpoints, cms etc.

BTW , What Mcintosh stuff did you try ..? A good video topic is Vintage Mac vs Modern Mac sound ..!

Also try PBN amplifiers out of CA see if its at constellation level highly rated with Mosfets ..!

Regards

Interesting video. Why did you not mention Dan Dagostino or Spectral as major high end US amp manufacturers?

I haven't owned spectral so how can I give input? I've said it many times that these are my opinions based on what I've owned. As a matter of fact, ALL YouTube channels related to audio are based on personal opinions, but most don't have the nerve or balls to tell it like it is.
A lot of people are sick and tired of watching the same stupid "giraffes" regurgitate the food and continue to chew it over and over again and you all swallow it over and over again.
I'm here to tell MY STORY with audio and if that makes any particular brand mad then this is a sign that i am probably right.

I hope the big brands see an opportunity here to build more affordable products that sound very close to their best components. This will wipe out the demand for mid Fi.
That 22k 1161 boulder amp is supposed to be amazing for the money. Some say it even bests the essence? Well maybe I’ll buy it and report back. Boulder has completely turned around and they have their act together. Before they couldn’t pay me to take a boulder amp home but now they are just incredible. This is A PRIME example of what the hell I’ve been saying to you all: EVOLUTION is key and I’m happy to see boulder steal customers from the cheaper brands. Who in their right mind would buy a Luxman 900u instead of just saving a little more to buy the boulder 1161? This is EXACTLY WHAT I’VE BEEN SAYING. I hope other top brands follow what boulder is doing. I’d love to see a mini Mephisto or maybe for the distributor to not be so hungry and mark these amps up so high?
Save your money folks and instead of buying that next MIDFI amp, sell a few things or work a little more overtime and grab yourself either an essence or the 1161 boulder. It's stupid to pay 15k for a MIDFI amp when the next tier group in sound quality is 7k more. Just save your dough and go all out.

15K is not mid Fi so your definitions are way off here , mid fi would be a lot less in cost and in selecting amplifiers you have to consider the load you plan on using them on not just the cost ..

Also its not easy to just water down the cost , something will have to give and usually this is the SOA on low Z loads . That is what will determine if a mini Gryphon will or not work for you ..

What sound is that , what is this modern sound you and jay are describing ..?

As far as I'm aware , Music is still played in the same old fashioned way ..!

:)

on my search for top-tier amp about 25 years ago, a very experienced hi-end dealer told me to NOT buy anything extreme.
why?, i asked.
because then you would need multiple amps, because this can do this well and the other one something else.
cut the story short, the "new sound" doesnt carry any new elements or abilities. it is more about the direction towards completeness. one amp can do more things well than before and that leads to more excitement

Yes but what exactly is old sound vs modern sound , if Pass is yesteryear vs Boulder which is modern sound , as stated , then what is yesteryear sound.

plenty vintage beat modern today , good sound or SOTA sound is good sound regardless of decades past , if truly SOTA it would still sound good today, it would be complete or close to it , a complete sound is not new..

... :)

Jay. So many variables here that qualify as a reply.
The main thing is, I'm not trying to say you are wrong! What I am replying to is every single person has some different way of hearing things & describing them etc. Some hear & like the {expensive/flashy/flavour of the months}, upper hifi gear, to others it makes their ears cringe & they will take the cheaper every time. Whether it's placebo or not is irrelevant.
Using myself as an example I would never own Boulder as I enjoy a strong midrange bordering on warm, now I would consider this company in my system. But,... I am also sure that some have decided that they may have lost their way.
Another example from mine is I was a huge MSB fan, still am, but wanted to chase the dragon's tail of digital. I still haven't found any company that can deliver a better sound but have found many that are different & immensely enjoyable.
I also owned the 5 series Soulution back in the day & really liked that sound. I never gelled with the 7 Series until they did exactly what Boulder are doing now with their sound & presentation.
I respect your opinions, as well as thank-you for sharing your audio journey, just thought I'd mention a brief time in my journey & some of my findings.
There is never a wrong, just a different opinion.

Warmth should come from the recording not the stereo, dry , warm , full , cold , clinical, fast , ideally all of these traits should come from the recording being played, the correct setup will exhibits these traits when it is presented in the recordings and not the electronics.

aside , of course its necessary to select what you think delivers you there...

I find Boulder gets out of the way and allow this to happen , thin in , thin out ..!

Regards

True, but one man's thin is another's anemic. Maybe I've got more treble!

This is an endless game, as for just one more "bump up" from the price of Boulder 1161 or for the price of Boulder 1160 you can buy two Luxman 900 and use them as monoblocks which gives you more power, punch, slam, and performance than either of those Boulder.

A good friend of mine operates his Akbedo Atesia (120,000 euro) speakers with two Luxman 800 monoblocks. he tested many amps (Dagostino, Pass, VAC, and more ...) but couldn't find the other amps to be better. now he hunts for another pair of M800 to connect each speaker with 2 monoblocks.
what i mean in this example, sometimes you get more for lower-priced Amp just by multiple them.
