Jay's Audio Journey

Serge what Porsche have you owned?

I was into 911 GT3 and GT3RS of various generations. Also had a few Boxster Spyders a Cayman R, Carrera 4S, Cayenne GTS. The GT3s and especially RS were always a good financial play. Got to drive them and walk away with more coins in the pocket than they cost me. Same with the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale. I’ve lost money on corvettes, mustangs, Nissan GTR and Audi R8 V10 6 speed manual (which I should have kept longer). Net- net the hobby was fun and didn’t cost me much of anything in depreciation in the 15 years I was into cars due to people willing to pay premiums on rare Porsche cars. Can’t say the same about audio toys. :)

He’s owned or still owns 12 Porsche. That’s a lot of Porsche I must say.

I had my fun for sure. I didn’t get out to track as much as I was hoping to and driving a car that is meant mostly for track on the street gets old. A few blasts here and there gets the adrenaline going but it is completely idiotic to try to tap into the potential of a performance car on the street. It’s like playing with a 2000w amplifier and trying to see if you can reach clipping levels…

Plenty of great track toys to chose from if one is serious about driving at 8/10 and higher on the track where they shine

Sorry about the thread detour Jay. Back to your channel.

Hi Serge ,

Very familiar with all of the cars listed but what about the audio, did you ever pursue a sota system ...?

Regards

I am fortunate I live about 20 minutes from VIR.

So Serge do you have a world class audio system?

Sure for 30 years… All kinds of systems. ARC, Lamm, McIntosh, Krell, Bryston, BAT, etc… many different speakers.

The pinnacle of my personal quest was a custom build dedicated 2Ch/Theater room with all Wilson speakers (Alexia, Polaris then Mezzo, Watch surrounds and D’Agostino Momentum monoblocks driving 3 front channels and Brystons on the surround and rear Wilson’s. All transparent cabling.

It was a very fun room to watch music concerts and listen to music. I moved to another house some years later. Would I do it again? Nope… I’m just having too much fun listening to my favorite jazz in a much smaller room which sounds very good with my Harbeth speakers. As far as movies, today’s 4K OLED screens are more than adequate so I can’t get enough motivation going to try and duplicate or best the previous attempt with a custom room and a projector.

This was my pinnacle and as far as I got.

Thanks ....!

Love the look of the room , So your current setup is based around HarbethÂ’s ..?

Regards

Thanks

Yes Harbeth 30.2 and PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium HP with EL34Â’s running in triode mode most days. The Harbeth are fairly tube friendly. ItÂ’s a system I assembled for a musical and fatigue free presentation. It delivers. I could play the upgrade game but see no need for now and itÂ’s been a few years already which is way longer than was the norm

Because i can...

Jay, I made a respectful suggestion and asked a legitimate question. I've also followed your thread for many years on Audiogon and have caught every
Youtube video you've posted as far as I can tell, supporting your channel to the extent that subscribing and likes can do so.

This response was curt and uncalled for.

SORRY, my apologies. I have had a lot of people who have asked the same question and i am simply do not have an answer to the question.

@Jay, thank you very much. The problem as I'm sure you have surmised from all those asking the same question is that it essentially turns into a
"pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" proposition that captures more attention due to objection than the test scenario you are hoping
to promote.

I also understand there are many possible reasons why you might not want to, or be able to show the compared piece(s) in question however there are a multitude of better ways to say that.

I agree. Thank you
