Narayan - thank you for your thoughts. I think what gets people's backs up is the insinuation that Class D is some magic panacea that beats all other amps, the constant attacks on analog, tubes and the like. What Mike needs to realize is that the Shark is filled with a lot of guys who have "been there, done that" and have an enormous wealth of experience. I'm sure many here have had their fill of Class D.
I've personally owned two (technically three) Class D amps and I've even had a good listening session with the latest kid on the block - Nord. Let's just say, I will keep my opinions to myself as I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or at least until I get them in my system, but Wayne's post earlier today nailed my initial impressions.
As for Mike's OP, I am glad he feels that way about AS and I hope we keep things that way. There is just a little concern for what many of us have witnessed on other forums and who's seemingly always in the middle of it.
I have still yet to get any handle on Mike's gear history, demo experiences or even his system (DIY or otherwise) or any other kind of real life experiences (has he ever owned Maggies? A turntable? A tube amp?).
I think the constant pokes about tubes, vinyl, R2R and the like is a constant jab in the ribs to many. Stick to the latest whiz bang chip or class D amp and we will all follow with curiosity, even if we ultimately retreat back to our tube amps and turntables.
