If you had to choose only ONE pair of speakers for rest of your life ...

Here is a review in the latest issue ofEnjoy The Music.com where the reviewer states the Sound Lab 845PX is "the speaker for the rest of your life" and is among less than a handful of the best loudspeakers I have ever listened to—at any price, under any circumstances."

Sound Lab Majestic 845PX Electrostatic Speaker The heart of a music system that should last you forever. Review By Dr. Jules L. Coleman

Oh the irony of life. This is the speaker that Jeff's friend George is selling for Polymer Audio's. I've heard both and the 845's are jaw dropping real. Massive soundstage. I didn't want to leave. You keep wanting to try another song, then another, then another because you've never heard your music sound so big. Amazing.

I think the title of this thread should have been "If you had to choose one pair of speakers for the rest of the week" since lots of people buy new speakers before the new speaker smell wears off the ones they just bought.

Given the price I just paid for some Alexia's, they better get me to at least retirement. Wifey says they better be good for the next ten years. (Lets see how well that plays out!)

That's funny! But, it's also what I'm talking about.

Mark, gear swapping seems to really bother you....not sure why. I wouldn't trade my experiences over the past 30+ years for anything. Variety is the spice of life.

I have two friends who trade cars every few months. Every time I see them it's some new little sports car (usually European). I keep cars for more than 10 years. But when I go to buy a new car, you can bet I call them. They've tried them all!

Gear swapping is fun and you know what, sometimes we circle back right where we began, with rich experiences gained that can never be replaced.

Wrong question, friends!

Is it about the speakers we would choose while using our current amps or the "ideal" amps? Are they to be used in our current room or in a future dwelling?
Right now, the Raidho D3 would be my answer, but next year I go into retirement and move to my country house, with a 45sq.m of space and a two-floor height (around 6.5m) in the main living room. So would the Raidhos fit & fill the room with sound? And what about the amp - will I get enough power from a Constellation Centaur stereo, or should I keep my current 500+Wpc Chord? All this, considering I'll have no neighbours to speak of: the nearest house is some 200m away, so I can blast Yello until the plaster comes off the walls!

And much more affordable too Mike. ...You've heard them; the Django XLs?

I did. I heard them with Luxman Class A int amp. It was sound good and bargain for what it is.

P.S : Congrats on 7,000 Posts Bob ~!!!

For my room and my budget ... I have them. Reworked Apogee Duetta Signatures.

For a cost no object, room no object, best environment available I would have to back the aforementioned MBL's. They just do things that nothing else can do.

For me it's

or it's baby brother....

Count me in...the Arrakis is remarkable. The only reason I would hesitate if I needed to keep it forever...is the downside risk of moving and not having a big enough room. The XLF also then makes a great choice. Although huge, it can play in much smaller rooms than one would think...minimum listening distance of 8 feet which is pretty good.)
