If you didn't have the gear you own now, what would you have?

More money in my pocket:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

Sex brings a happy ending, and a recurring need by men to fantasize about what it would be like with another partner.

Just like audio gear..........

I would probably spend less money.

One option would be buying pre-owned speakers. I was always a big fan of the high-end d'Appolito speakers when I couldn't afford it. You can buy them now with still the excellent sound for less then € 2000 in mint condition.
So one of the following:

Of course driven by the excellent Job 225

And the main sources (turntable and streamer) would be the same except the Akurate would now have the integrated pre-amp (the DSM)

The Project RPM 9.2

As an alternative I could also see active speakers instead of the used ones and the Job. In that case the Neumann's

In both cases I would support by two fast subs.
Neumann has a sub that would probably be superb.

Or maybe a pair of smaller Velodynes. Probably not bigger than 10" chassis as the speed is crucial.

To compensate the for the absence of the built-in DSP in the preamp as I have now I would also take the DSPeaker.

This all would bring me very close to sound heaven. Close enough.
Very shrewd…I got my eye on you. Too clever by far...

Like Hans I would go used and new.

Auralic streamer with Jriver-> Modded Denon DVD 3910 physical transport-> Lampi USB converter->Lampi L7/DSD-> Modded Tortuga LDR preamp-> Job 225 stereo amp-> Heil AMT Kithara with bass plate. Then i am set.

$1000+300+2000+10000+1200+1700+8000=$22.5K full price, half that with some shrewd used shopping, so $12K and for me, end of the road punto finale. Not cheap, but clsoed book, and total music focus afterwards.

Paul, that new system of yours would work out just great in my house. When are you delivering it? Love the Laz-y-boy!!! :)

I guess I just refreshed my components, so I'm pretty much where I want to be. I would love to hear the new Pass amps one day though.

This is the best part! :)

If I didn't have the system I have now...

I would have Mike or Jeff's ! They will eventually find me and due to the cost I think its a felony...but you asked, I told..LOL

Try to create some time in your agenda to get to Munich and I am sure we'll have some fun discussions!

Norman I think you have created an absolute winner!

Then i am set.
:skeptical:

The part about music focussed I believe. The rest would imply you would stop the eternal search for Nirvana, stop being an audiophile. See that is what I tell myself all the time but I know it will probably not happen....

NEW wife, :)

More world travels

But is hard to thinking not to own
some audio gear, music it's been on
my head since childhood.

While I am quite happy with the sound of my system, I am very unhappy with the sound of the room, but nothing can be done about that beyond what has already been done.
If I were to suffer the loss of my system whether in the same place or not, I would replace with the following:
Speakers: Pioneer SP-FS52 with the SP-C22 speakers and $20 speakers for rear delays
CDP: Marantz CD-5004
Receiver: Yamaha RX-A730 receiver (Unless I could get a Marantz SR5008 for the same price)
Turntable: A decent legacy/vintage turntable and a Ortofon 2M Blue or AT440LM cart, failing that I would have to give up my vinyl.
If I lost my music I would be too devastated to do anything.
