Well i sold my Music Hall MMF 9.1 and im looking to upgrade......i wanna keep the price around 5-6K with cartridge included. My preamp is a Mcintosh C50 .......i LOVE the look of the Mcintosh M5 , but have not heard it and may not be able to hear it......so i am open to suggestions......anyone have any ideas for me?

Vpi classic 2 and Ortofon cadenza bronze. Awesome setup retail for
5700 and there so many vpi dealers you can find a deal on that.
That was the original setup I was going to buy, instead I bought speakers and a classic1 and cadenza blue cart. If I had bought the 2/bronze setup from the beginning I probably never would have sold my table.

VPI is on my list , although ive only heard their entry lvl TT

It fits in your pricerange and at that price point it is an awesome value and the bronze cartridge sounds wonderful. If you can find that setup go give it a listen .

Yeah, the Classic is no doubt a great table, and it will fit into your budget. However, the old HW19's and their upgraded variants are also great tables. You could pick up one of these used, plus an SDS used and still have enough left over for a new truly great cartridge over the price of a new Classic.

Just a thought.

Wow, 5-6k on a single tt? All of my TT's don't come to that total..LOL. Enjoy your search. ;)

Jut my two cents BUT...

You should not have sold your music hall...you have and are reaching the point of diminished returns on investment. A 5 to 6K turntable does NOT sound twice as good ...or even 20% better than say a 2K table. This is the aficionado range where IF you just feel like spending money, you can. But you don't have to.

Imagine this analogy. You have a car that cost 28k that goes zero to 60mph in 4 seconds. You can sell that and buy a car for $70k and go from zero to 60 in 3.4 seconds. was that worth the extra 42k ? Maybe, maybe not.

Since it is already sold, go for the VPI Classic and get yourself a damn fine MC cart. If you must spend, then the VPI Classic 3 will eat up your 6k...and I think you will be hard pressed to hear a difference from your MMF...Just my opinion but don't want you to be let down...

When I got back into vinyl I purchased a Marantz 15 TT, which is really a Clearaudio TT. It was better than I thought it would be and made me want to get more into vinyl. I then purchased the VPI Classic 1, which to me was an worthwhile upgrade. Now I just ordered a VPI Classic 3 since I liked the Classic 1 so much and am looking for more of a good thing. Haven't used any other tables in over 20 years, but I know there is always an upgrade out there.

Good luck with your upgrade.

this is kinda cool for $3995.
the unison research giro. its cool looks and a good review, might want to give it a listen. and plop a sick ass cartridge on it. :D

That's cool , I never heard one or even seen one aside from pics.
I like the styling for sure. With a decent deal at that pricerange you can get in the
Lyra kleos/clearaudio concerto/Ortofon cadenza black/shelter 901/ van den hul frog pricerange of cartridges And still be within your budget.

Even if I were rich I would be looking at a Well Tempered Labs Amadeus GTA or Versalex...unless I were really well off then it would be a Brinkmann Bardo.
