I think reading this should be interesting especiall y for many younger people who came after the 80's. Tom Martin describes what so many did when discovering HP and High Performance Audio and how to learn
If you read this carefully you might see how the entire focus of the Industry has shifted for many and IMO not for the better but to make more things acceptable and ........

Do I remember correctly that th early issues of TAS had a unique form factor / size? I have a vague memory of a light brownish printed document like book maybe smaller than a ‘normal’ magazine??

This is exactly how I felt. Tom Martin has 10-yrs on me but I also discovered TAS in college. I was utterly subdued by the magazine, HP and articles by regulars like Sid Marks and the Living Stereo series. I recall the dispointment walking back from the mailbox kicking rocks because the latest issues had not yet arrived. HP's multipart reviews literally had you on the edge of your seat. The fun part was meeting up at the local audio store and speculating with salesmen as how the review was to end, like it were a serial or TV show. Never mind the TAS Super disc list and the scavenger hunt that ensued trying to find a decent copy of Casino Royale or the like, before word got out...those were good times.
