This is the sequel to "DO I need a DAC" thread.

After spending most of the morning listening to XBOX music (I have 12 hours of Christmas Music) while making my sauce for a baked ziti (have to give you context), I determined the built in DAC in my Surface through my system is more than enough.

I also sat for a few and listened to Josh Grobin Noel album (again through Xbox music)...chills...sounded beautiful.

As good as Bob's mega system or Mike's or anyone who goes ultimate...not likely ..but it doesn't have to be...what is has to be is enjoyable, clear, a presence that makes me feel the music. It did and I am happy.

Also, the sauce is coming out phenomenal !!! I make a 7 cheese baked ziti to die for. NORMALLY I listen to the Rat Pack while cooking (gets my in my NY state of mind) but today it was Christmas. Okay okay..there was Dean, Frank, Bing...lol

Music & cooking yesiree, that is a recipe for a musical time. Glass of red on the side, no matter the sauce, the emotion will suffice.

So about to go in the oven for 30 minutes - perfection

My special sauce (ground beef, Italian sausage and onions precooked in an iron skillet with a touch of olive oil and added to the tomato sauce with spices - garlic oregano basil salt hot pepper and pepper)
spread on a thin layer bottom
followed by the ziti
then sauce on top of that
mix sour cream and ricotta and blend it in
now add asiago and parmesan finely grated
a layer of provolone cheese
a layer of mozzarella
no repeat for another layer
sauce, pasta, cheeses..etc...

Bake on 350 for 30 minutes
Not only is it awesome but tastes even better the next day

So how is this related to a DAC ? It tastes better when eaten to digital music...LOL..Preferably either Christmas tunes or the rest of the year, Andrea Boccelli and the rat pack...

That looks awful. You better put it in a leak proof container and overnight it here for further inspection. :D

Rob...very nicely done. You definitely need an outboard DAC with that baked ziti dish! :D

A pair of Greg's Volti speakers, a pair of 300b amps and a vinyl rig and you will never want a DAC within a mile of your system!

well...company is gone..took half the ziti...lol

Surface played all evening...Christmas tunes...sounded great...But tubes from 1961 will tend to do that..LOL

Interesting. Yes, I find that my Marantz CD player's dac is far more than good enough. It blows my mind every time I slip a CD in. (It's the architecture of it's implementation that is mostly responsible I think). I also feel that the dac in my squeezebox Touch is exceedingly good as well. To put it another way, it blows the dacs in my PC sound cards away and blows the dac in my Onkyo receiver out of the water as well. (That's why I hooked up my Marantz via regular ol' RCA so that I can use it's dac instead of the receiver overriding it).
Now as to that ziti dish you made......nice one! I am the cook in my place as well and have been cooking for years. I have found that cooking with music does enhance it and makes cooking even more fun. (Jamie Oliver gave me that idea. There is a process that happens when you cook with music, it causes you to put that extra little something into everything you make...in other words, as the most important thing Jamie ever said to me "when you cook from the heart everything turns out all lovely").

Nice...

Funny too because my wife is "the cook" and I mean the COOK. Her baking and meals are famous (just ask my co-workers and family members). But I have like 2 specialties...she has never mastered my baked ziti or my prefect rib eyes...YET

I can imagine that Marantz is sweet ! I wanted to but that particular one but when I was shopping, I was short on funds...so settled for the Teac...funny also because now its half the price..Oh well...

I see the Marantz 6004 has now been replaced by the 6005...wonder how different ?
