How Much Power Do We Need?

Which show are you doing next....?
MEP and I are restarting the Gong Show, kzhtoo demoing his power cord hearing skill from looking at a picture will be our first contestant.
Ok, just kidding.
I'll have a very very big announcement to make soon. It's going to be huge, believe me.

Mep do you know who Wayne is ? You were next to him in Florida right ! He was the guy who told mike his amps were clipping. In truth I only know that man a few months but in that time he has improved my setup many folds over.
If you read his worlds and understand them it’s gold not kidding . What I thought was fine is not once you know what to listen for. As for who designed them and I like Nola speakers is misleading you and others.
I did a post about clipping and even offered music to prove the point. But as mostly the educated get ignored and the so called experts prevail. Mep its not a contest it’s valuable info to be used and learn. Without saying who he is I can say hands down he knows the industry most all of them technically above most makers of amps. Why it’s design concepts that lack practical usaege like your. 75 watt amp.
A simple rim shot is many times above playing volumes. Oddly I thought like you not more then a few months ago. He is not just right but can show by math and music to play to prove his point. Tubes and SS amps clip period
here is a song so read it and play it and don’t post more till you do.
Beethtoven 9 chorales 6/7 or so. It’s the two parts where they are singing with the music
play it once to observe the words from him and the group. Then increase the volume just 3db
do this until the words cannot be heard. That’s when your clipping back down 3db till it stops
just do it already.
I have a few songs like this. that man is not just right but is willing to spoon feed. But ignorance wins on forums. I know it’s done to me all the time.
My aragon 08 at 4 ohms Gives 400 wats amd at 2 ohms near Double. Point is mine clips mep
so what do you think your 75 watts is doing.
Play the damn music and learn them post and admit he knows.

Geez that’s not includeding transients does anyone really read. This is one reason Audio is so screwed you reqd specs and post of them without forgoing the why and what it really means and even if it’s possible. Play the music then post and don’t worry about specs just yet arm chair posting is not valuable it’s uninformed info Your spreading
Its just not right to do. And I am not looking to argue just make it right.

The Gong Show award is some speaker that never sells. No thanks.

True, sound matters least to those bandwagon appeal ad populum types ;)
I'll post a pic so you can know how it sounds.
The prize is Bose cubes, the best selling and thus best sounding speakers in the world :D

I have the big cubes , 901 with Bybee nano technology .... :)

re Cordell,

1 watt rms required 200+ watt on peaks , .5 watt rms would require 100 watts on Peak , now .25 watts rms would be necessary to put us square in the sweet spot of our hypothetical super heterodyne 75 watt
rms amplfier ..

wall output sag, psu sag , etc , not with standing .... :)

No thanks. Not interested in your pic.

Gotta sell first to even have a bandwagon.

Don't forget to add 3dB to the speaker's sensitivity spec as you listen to a pair of speakers.

Assuming Nola's KO 90dB sensitivity spec is accurate, you'd have @ 1m:

93db @ 1w
96db @ 2w
99db @ 4w
102db @ 8w
105db @ 16w
108db @ 32w
111db @ 64w

Only if it were a constant 8ohm (doubtful). For example, if the impedance drops to 4 in the bass region, double the power is needed. Actual impedance measurement (not "spec") is very helpful.

cheers,

AJ

Yes, that's why I referred to the voltage sensitivity and not efficiency; not many amps can maintain the same voltage level for a certain SPL when presented with lower impedances.

What is it at 3m listening distance ....

There is some room gain as well so the SPL drop @ 3m will be less than 9db, let's say 6-7dB.
