Are the Gryphon phone pre's still as exceptional today? I have not really seen one...

The Legato is very good. How it compares to other top end phono stages I have no idea. My friend has his installed in the older Sonata Allegro preamp. We only compared it to the preamp he upgraded from. He had a McIntosh C200 at the time I think. This was about 15years ago and he still has no plans for upgrading any component. The stand alone Legato should be top notch since Gryphon still has it in their line up.
