High-end Munich (á la Perfect sense | Stockholm)

Everything is relative and personal in the end, but I'm sure most people would agree regarding the claimed differences in between Magico and Kaiser, especially after having experienced the Magico and Kaiser rooms during the recent Munich show.

Vitus is a great match with Magico btw.

A pity some discussions get philes bent out of shape over subjective opinions, especially where no Malice is intended, I'm sure the Alloy guys could hear the vibrations on every box speaker at the show.. Then again , Saying a speaker is unmusical is pretty subjective and applies to uno, I mean it's not like hearing speaker overload and excessive port chuffing ..

I will now duck under the desk ......... :shooting:

Fair comments Hyperion & agree re: Magico/Vitus. I agree with Myles comments that you haven't heard Magico speakers until you've heard them properly dialled in with a good source such as an R2R in a well sorted room. Magico has a long break in period & are sensitive to upstream gear and should be properly coupled to the room. For example, I've heard the S3's suck in a treated room which was too small for them, but sound amazing in a more suitable room with VA gear. I'm just suggesting you should not be so effusive in your comments.

Cheers.

Couldn't this be said and applied to all speakers, good or bad, how can anyone say they have heard or give their subjective opinion on any hi-fi gear if such standards are to be applied.

Regards..

The (custom) RAAL ribbon tweeter is extremely natural sounding (sweet, smooth and organic) and never, ever bright or edgy - far from it. This tweeter is also used by Nola btw (another favourite speaker manufacturer of mine). The Kaiser's definitely belongs in the "musical" category being polar opposites in most aspects to Magico for example (sorry fans :). The bass woofer and configuration is optimized by Kaiser upon order in relation to the specific room characteristics of the client. It can also be changed and modified at a later time if/when moving the system to another room.

Hi all,

I completly agree. Magico sound was not on par for what the represent in the industry. In Chicago the sound of Q7 was nothing special.

Check out mono and stereo magazine, they say Magico failed again. Q7 ok for show conditions but S7 was out of phase.

I need to hear this Kaiser speakers soon.

Best regards

Michael

I only did mention Magico in relation to Kaiser as a case in point. These are speakers not having very much in common, coming from two rather different companies after all. One uses aluminium for cabinet, bracing etc, the other one tankwood (an incredibly rigid, tough and well-damped type of beech ply) for cabinet (which explains the weight of 99 kg - about 220 lbs a piece for the Classic speaker).

I used to carry Magico, and I do know what they can do when properly setup and matched with the right electronics. I wasn't planning to comment on the Magico rooms as I've tried to focus on the rooms and systems that did impress me the most among the ones I managed to cover during the largest Munich show ever!

Marcus, first thank you for the pictures and commentary on an event I hope to attend one day. Great job, thank you!

Second, as you and I have discussed before, I do agree with your categorization of Magico vs. Kaiser. I've heard both speakers at the same venue, same electronics. Kaiser is a beautiful speaker that has a rich organic quality to the music. Magico can and does sound analytical (a tendency to precision and accuracy) compared to the Kaiser. But having said that, my preference is still Magico for its overall performance package. With the right electronics (Vitus and Pass seem to be a great pairing), they can be simply stunning...

Hyperion, I don't know why you're so surprised? You were always going to get a negative reaction/backlash with a comment like this...

Did I say or imply that I was surprised to get your reaction. I'm not :)

I believe we would need to start out by defining our personal definition of "musical" as a start to be able to discuss the individual qualities of these speaker brands if it's going to beneficial.

Anyway, I believe this is slightly of topic where I suggest we'll leave it at that.

Just a side note...
panzerholz or "tank wood" used in the cabinet of the Kaiser speaker is the Lignofol used by Pro Audio Bono for its anti vibration feet. The acoustics damping of this material is just incredible.
I would be very curious to hear a speaker built in a Lignofol cabinet.

That unfortunately is the problem defined. Shows are the worst forum to evaluate anything.

Hello Marcus, many thanks for the great photos. Do you have any info on the larger models Kaiser are meant to be working on? Also, do you carry Lars amps and have you had a chance to hear them and new Monica pre in other systems yet? Would be very interested in hearing your thoughts on these amps. Thanks. Ash

First of all, sorry for the late reply - I didn't notice this until just now.

Kaiser are indeed working on a new SOTA speaker to be launched early next year. That's all I can say on the subject at the moment I'm afraid...:)

I don't carry Engström & Enström (The Lars/Monica). My focus is Absolare on this most elevated level which has obvious and proven synergy with Kaiser.

Crystal Cable makes speakers that are candy for the eyes and a caress for the soul :). The smallest monitor Minissimo was introduced in an upgraded Diamond version (new tweeter + internal cabling from the Absolute Dream series) along with a matching subwoofer (CCDB ) which can either be placed freely in the room or being used as a "stand" for the monitors in the series.

Many thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated and no worries at all about late reply. Look forward to the new SOTA speaker from Kaiser. Next time my wife and I are in Stockholm will drop into your showroom. Many thanks.
