Hi from Seattle

Too many people moving to Seattle. Traffic is terrible! House prices are way up. Rent is ridiculous. Just trying to demotivate people from moving here...
Well if it makes you feel any better, Sydney and Melbourne in my neck of the woods takes the cake. Horrible traffic, massive rents, million dollar median house prices, you name it. And you have that fish place...the fish market! :hungry:

Welcome to the sharks.

Goodness NO! Portland is a terrible place, who would want to come here? Seattle is the place for you. While it does rain, its usually only just a mist (aside from November through June:D).

Portland, who would ever want to live in Portland? Its fly over country from everywhere, hardly a destination!

However, if you love liberal politics, Portland and Seattle are constantly one-upping each other, so its a push in that regard. Oregon has a state income tax, one of the highest in the nation, and high property taxes too. Washington has sales tax (also high, but you only pay when you buy, not simply when you earn) however Seattle itself just voted for an city income tax (though it has little chance of holding up in the courts).

I lived in Seattle area 25 yrs, now Portland. I like Portland better.

Ha! I had lunch down on NW 21st Monday. I have to agree about as nice of a city as I've ever been in (and I've been all over the world).

hi Stoutblock,

just saw this thread, and let me add my welcome to AS to the others.

I grew up in Northeast Seattle, and live in North Bend now. so I'm local. and besides the last 48 days with zero rain (a trace of misty rain this morning), it does rain all the time here.

OTOH I would not live anywhere else.

Nice to meet you Mike. North Bend was once way out in the sticks. Now it is another saturated bedroom community for Seattle! I agree the Pacific NW is the best place on earth. My family has been here for over 120 years and I would not leave for anything but need to get further away from the metropolitan area...

it's mutual, Stoutblock.

only 25 minutes for me to work in Factoria....on I-90 at 75mph with a little traffic the last 5-6 miles from Issaquah.

and what I love about North Bend is that it's not saturated. minimal development and very small town'ish. and it's all wilderness around it. known mostly for great hiking trails. the regional plan is for population growth to the north and south, but not east at all. if you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Seattle, but need to be able to get to town quickly when the mood strikes; North Bend is hard to beat. with no traffic I can get home in 30 minutes from a Mariner's game at night.

Ha again. I don't mean to date myself but there was very little sign of civilization over there BITD. I used to go out there and shoot with friends. I would not dare do that now! Now it is a nice area to live but too many people know that...
