Harbeth 30.1 are outstanding !!!!

Update:

I just switched to the Naim Supernait 2 with the HiCap-dr and it gives the C2300/MC275 a run for the money. I don't want to admit it right now, but I think it might be better. Damn!

It's going to be tough call. Some songs are better with tubes, some are better all SS.

Too early to tell. :) I had them with Naim 282,250.2. :)

Enjoy it ! Hehe

Paul,

You did. You've also been through as much or MORE gear than me. Sometimes we take the long way home, but we get there eventually. :)

I told you long time ago :(

Hehe I'm so happy for you Joe :D

Joe

I think if the JOB can push the 82db Treos' to ear shattering levels, the Harbeth's might be a mild test. I would think the MC-275 would be too. Might want to try putting the GAT in front of the JOB and the MC-275 and see what you hear. The problem with the JOB will be the GAT's high 25db gain. Too me either one of those amps with the Red Wine Isabella preamp might be worth a listen.

I really like the C2300 or C500T in front of the Job 225 because I can reduce the input gain by 6 dB. It's very easy in the setup on the preamps. This puts me in a better volume range. The GAT does sound amazing in front of the Job but the gain in VERY high.

Joe

Have you ever tried the GAT with the MC-275's? I would think it would be still pushing it a bit since the 275's input sensitivity is only 1.25v, but it might work with the GAT's high gain.

Hi Jack,

Not with the MC275 yet but I did with the MC601's and it's superb. It brings the soundstage a little more forward and layered with a touch more 3D. McIntosh amps are outstanding and benefit from superb preamps.

Anybody using this CD for burn in ? I found this CD really helps to burn in and test .

Congrats Joe.

Myles,

Thank you. I still think the GAT/ART combo will be THE combo to beat. Am I crazy for wanting the ARTsa stereo amp? Do you think it will be very close to the monos in a smaller package. I have no intention of selling the ART monos but adding the stereo version.

congrats joe, many happy and healthy years with them!!!

Thank you Steve. Trust your own ears ;)

Then the GAT and the MC-275 might be the ticket, if not too much gain!

I think it will be great too.

:panic:

:scholar: I already have someone interested in them when my 40.1's are delivered. Do I really need both? Probably not.

Or at least until the 40.1's show up. ;)

Depending on the acoustics in Joe's room the 30's might be better than the 40's. If he wants or needs to fill in the lowest octave then that can be accomplished with the REL or Vandersteen subs.

I have two JL Audio F113 subs that I have not used in probably two years. One has about 200 hours on it, the other unboxed and never used. As much as I know subs will do the trick, I just don't like the added complexity and space requirement.

My room has decent volume (size) and I am not worried about overloading the room with the 40.1's, plus I don't really crank it.I listen a lot late at night at low to moderate volume.

Joe

When you have both pair of speakers in the room match them up with the same set of equipment and judge them not by the cost, but what sounds the best in your room to "your ears" and sell the loser. A few years ago I had two pairs of speakers by the same manufacturer in my room and one cost double the other. After listening for a couple of weeks I kept the lower end model because it worked better. So trust "your" ears and not the reviews or other minutia.
