Gryphon Mephisto: Review by Ultraaudio/Jeff Fritz

I wonder how it would sound on the Raidho's? ;)

The Gryphon sound imo has a density, analog like sound which is very natural/transparent with awesome bass weight and control vs ultra neutral sound of some of the other ss alternatives.

I would think the sound closer to D'Agostino than Solution for example.

I am sure Lloyd will come and add a lot more detail.

Wonderful :)

I don't think there is a USA distributor.
+1 methinks. :)

Disappointing we can't hear Gryphon here in the states, other than going to Rockport in Maine. Andy Payor uses Gryphon to voice his wonderful speakers.

Solution: come visit Denmark

Raidho is less than 2 hours drive from Grypthon. While you're here, then you can also visit these companies, all of which is located about 1 hour from Gryphon:

Raidho
B&O
Dynaudio
Dali
Vitus
Gryphon
Bergman
Argento
Peak Consult

Drive about 3 hours more and then you will find:

ZenSati
Ortofon
Duelund

Oh my! I may never leave.

Thats a pretty fair & accurate call compared to what i have heard of them myself. They are definitely a top tier amp & that expression of the first few seconds or so is relevant in hearing them. Have you heard the 5 series Soulution amps Shane?
Mike, I forgot about the Mephisto, the plot definitely thickens......

Know all about it - I'm still here :exciting:

Vitus is the one I keep thinking about.

The "only" correct Vitus solution is a set of SM-010 or the new SM-011 version (approximately $ 40.000 here ex. VAT). In my opinion, the larger 1XX models are not musical and fully molded as the smaller series. Today I am more than satisfied with my switch from my custom built Vitus SS10 to a Viola Symphony, which is a much better buy, both in terms of price and Performens.

Thanks. Lots of love for Viola. Must audition.

Hi Christian,

Can you share the sonic differences between the two (tonality, imaging, soundstaging, dynamics, etc) and why you chose Viola over Vitus? This is not a 'challenge' type question, just curious. I've heard Viola on TADs and like them, but have not had the opportunity to hear Vitus yet.

thx

For various reasons it has not been possible with a direct A-B comparison. One of the reasons is that my Vitus was part of a bi-amping setup, which is not the case today.

However, it is my opinion that Viola is a class better overall. It provide a sharper and more well-defined Performens, and not least, a 3D soundstage that is at least a class better. For me it is such a product that you know your product as soon as you have heard it. The same can not be said for Cadenza, although it also performs well. For me, Symphony such a product that you know is true love as soon as you have heard it. The same can not be said for Cadenza, although it also performs well.

I have no doubt that both Viola Legacy and Bravo will perform better, yet you do not experience any compromises with Symphony. And yes, I don't dare to hear either Legacy or Bravo. It could prove to be costly :weird:

Not been fortunate to hear the 5 series. Too many great amps, not enough $$:D

Totally agree, Shane, with your description of Gryphon. I also think that there are some resemblances with D'Ags. I have not heard soulution but your observations certainly seem consistent with what I read about them. Pure guesswork, I think D'Ags may present a more finely threaded treble to upper mid while Colosseum probably more imperturbable in the deep subterranean bass with ultra-low impedance speakers up thru lower mids. Again just a guess.
