Gryphon Colosseum arrives at Suncoast Audio

A solid afternoon of listening. Holy sh!t this amplifier is on another planet. The silk glove with the iron fist has been found.

It has it all: sweetness, dynamics, HUUUUUUUUGE soundstage, bass that seems to plumb an octave lower, midrange to die for. OMG what an amp. Had another group over listening today, including a retired recording engineer. They all said "this amp doesn't sound like solid state or tubes."

Mike,

You should have a Gryphon event!

Is this event gonna be like one of those sci-fi flicks where every one gathers around the strange heavenly object and is transported to this elevated state of consciousness and audio nirvana? If so I’m in. Booking my flight to Sarasota as we speak.
Seriously though, I thoroughly enjoyed all happenings I have attended at Suncoast Audio and thank you for the exposure to all the exotics that only existed in my audio magazines.

I don’t think it is an exaggeration to say Suncoast Audio is setting a new standard.

Well done Mike!

Mike,...those amps look amazing! Can you post day 1 impressions in detail plus more as they break in past 250-350+ hours and beyond? What's the price point?

Do you have any plans on adding their speakers to the mix?

Oh yes. Gryphon speakers arrived a couple of days ago. They are still in their crates. I know, I know...get on with it man! I will today.

Shows what I know. I was scanning the pictures and it took several before I found it was a amp and not a speaker. It is beautiful.

Hi Mike.
If you ever have time, I would be very grateful if you connected your AR Ref 6 to the Gryphon. I am increasingly interested in the Antileon Evo, but I would like to know that such is the association with AR, given the input impedance of 20,000 Ohm of the Gryphon.

Took the Gryphon Colosseum off the stand. But the biggest improvement BY FAR, was plugging it directly into one of the dedicated 20amp circuits. The manual says do not plug it into any power conditioner, regardless of brand, style or type. Uhhh....the manual was right. MUCH more dynamic.

How does the Gryphon compare to the D'Agostino S250?

Can I plead the 5th? [emoji56]

They are both tremendous amplifiers.

The Colosseum has a massive soundstage, incredible bass control and grip, seemingly subterranean bass, that gorgeous class A midrange and top end. Vocals are just to die for.

I had people over yesterday listening and they were astonished by the sound.

Mike,

May congrats on getting the mighty Gryphon amp! Why couldn't you be closer to where I live?!
How does gryphon sound compare to the Vitus Class A (apart from the difference in power output)?

Thanks,
Anshul

I don't have the Vitus anymore, so hard to say. 160 watts vs 50 watts is also different. I love the dark, rich, chocolatey, BIG BIG BIG sound of Gryphon.

I wish YOU lived closer! I miss hanging out with you. Can you make it to Axpona?

At almost 2 times the cost I hope better. Nevertheless, it would be great to do a comparison to articulate the differences between these two great amps.
