Grounding units like - "Tripoint" - "Shunyata" Triton/Typhon

Re: Grounding units like - "Tripoint" - "Shunyata" Triton/Typhon

I can't really say for sure but the Shunyata doesn't actually do any surge protection or conditioning other than EMI/RF.
So I guess in theory you would be starting with cleaner more stable power with the Torus and then you get the benefits of the Shunyata. All of these power products are worthless if you don't have clean regulated power coming in. Just my opinion though. I'm not a power guru by any means.

And you are a Shunyata dealer?

* Ok I see, recently new dealer, and still learning; cool.

lol, for the record, I have a Torus WM-100.....

Does it have an enormous toroidal transformer? ...And how do you like it?

Grounding units like - "Tripoint" - "Shunyata" Triton/Typhon

I'm pretty familiar with most of the Shunyata products. For what ever reason I just didn't realize the Tryton had surge protection. Yes the Torus has a huge transformer but I can't say how I like it because have not used one. I just said that I would if I were starting from scratch or building a new room.

Re: Grounding units like - "Tripoint" - "Shunyata" Triton/Typhon

Thanks, Frank, very helpful. I'm a lurker on WBF so I'll go check out the thread.

Strange that if you can use the Typhon in parallel with an amp, why can't you do the same when using with the Triton, ie, plug the Typhon into the other outlet, saving you one more outlet on the Triton.:skeptical:

I need to stay away from this and the Stillpoints thread. It's costing me too much d*mn money reading them!!:D

Actually the surge protection information came directly from Caelin on another forum. He made the point a day or two ago. I went back and checked to make sure before posting.

I went with the 2 Typhons after discussion with Caelin. He called it extreme but very effective, more so than the Cyclops. He said he doesn't recommend the Typhon route only because of cost. The Typhon has larger NICs than the Cyclops so in theory they should give you more of what the Cyclops can deliver. I never went the Cyclops route after communicating with Caelin so I can't offer an opinion on the Cyclops. Yes, you're correct, you plug the Typhon into the open receptacle in the outlet, it works in parallel. They also recommend you use a short umbilical so you have to place the box near the outlet.

I will tell you, the difference with the Typhons in are not insignificant. I had to unplug them at first because I couldn't believe what was going on. I don't think Mike or Joe would mind if I mention this because they both post on What's Best Forum, there's a long thread on this very subject and actually a couple of threads that could give you some good information.

Hope that helps Allen.

Grounding units like - "Tripoint" - "Shunyata" Triton/Typhon

I'm going to order a Triton this week. I had one when they first come out but didn't really have a 2 ch system at the time. I'll have to try it out. I know Jock really likes it also.

It's ok, I didn't know that either.

And yes, Torus power line conditioners all have fairly large size toroidal transformers.

Re: Grounding units like - "Tripoint" - "Shunyata" Triton/Typhon

Same set up

Same amazing results!

Def +1

I have a Triton/ Typhon combo for my front end. I also run a Typhon in parallel with each amp. I ran the Triton/Typhon on the front end for a couple of months before adding the 2 Typhons to the amps. The Triton/ Typhon on the front end is very good. I replaced an excellent Audience aR6-TSS with them and they were clearly superior. Adding the Typhons to the amps is an expensive proposition if you're running mono amps. You're talking $5k for each box and another $2k for the umbilicals to plug in to your outlet, not to mention the real estate you consume. I also found that placing 4 Stillpoints Ultra 5s under each box is the best isolation support for the Typhons and improves performance even more. All that said, you will be dumbfounded with the results. The increase in clarity, improved resolution across every frequency, the additional layering, width and depth of soundstage is staggering. No way I'm taking them out of my system. A couple of others have tried the Typhon with amp solution and reported similar findings.

Hockey games !!!!!

I'll try to catch up tho. :woot:

In the USA using multiple grounding stakes into the ground for a circuit box is 40/60 of helping. It is soooooooo dependent on your personal situation ??????

The good thing is that it's probably a $1,000 add and if it doesn't work better it's $100 to remove it. Again depending on your situation.

Damn - I just missed a goal. :(

Calling "The Professor" !!

Where are you Jock ??

Re: Grounding units like - "Tripoint" - "Shunyata" Triton/Typhon

Unless you have extremely bad power from the electric company I would not recommend any additional power transformers in your system unless they were the 200+amp commercial variety

I have yet to hear one that didn't limit the current over what comes from the electric company.

Just my .02

If I were doing a new room from scratch I would use a Torus 100 amp panel and then use Your favorite devices from Shunyata, Nordost or Ansuz. I'm sure there are many other options that work very well that I'm just not familiar with. I do have several power supplies from Accuphase that I use from time to time and they are not subtle differences. But would be a matter of taste if you like it or not.

Re: Grounding units like - "Tripoint" - "Shunyata" Triton/Typhon

Totally agree and after trying bunches of stuff the 2 Typhons w umbilicals is ALOT better

I don't understand it but my ears tell me it's so.

With respect to the Torus WM100 BAL, I am very happy with it. It is vastly superior to the smaller units I had used previously, mostly Audience stuff. Since the Torus is part of the house wiring, I have not done any comparisons, nor is it likely that I will.....

Jeff Fritz used the same unit I have as part of his most recent "World's Best Audio System". I have included a link where he gives general information on the product and the company.

I should also note I do have more than a few friends who have been happy with Shunyata products. Many roads to Rome...
