Ground up budget audiophile system 2014

I think the OP got scared!

Come back; it is very possible!

This one is easy. Start with a Devialet 170 and a Synology NAS. The Synology can output up to 24/192 via its usb. Then spend the rest on the best speakers you can afford. In my case I went with the Magico S1s and I couldn't be happier.

Over time you could upgrade the cables and add a dedicated streamer like an Aurender or build a CAPS. Or wait and see if Devialet delivers the rumored UPnP solution.

I wondered what happened to my thread. Been using iphone for the forum - it didn't list it in my profile to keep track.

Firstly thank you all for your contribution and it means a lot to have a soundboard and experience to guide you.

Mike am currently in Mumbai - India and also New Zealand citizen.
Have a degree/ exp in Engg electronics and software.
Currently am an actor and singer (hobby) I love sound and all nuances of music - makes me feel alive and also hope to produce music at some stage.

So yea the idea of having a streamer somehow connected minimally to speakers (that would have to be a choice of sorts) - AND flexibility to play music efficiently when friends come over - without having to stumble upon USB sticks n laptops would be nice.

Music choice - semi classical (Indian), rock ,pop , techno, anything goes.

Been reading about mola mola and his quest for a killer DAC - then again trinity is way way way out of my league.

Great point - Forget 5.1

I actually like the simplicity of 2 speakers and unless I do need a center channel.
