I may take the dive back into the black magic of vinyl and was hoping for some input on a good starter turntable. There are a few that draw my interest as of right now.
This is my list so far:
VPI Traveler
Clearaudio Concept
Rega RP3
As far as first impressions, I like the Traveler the best. A US company that would be able to service quickly if the need arises and easy to contact. I've heard good and bad about the Clearaudio. Basically I've heard that the fit and finish of the Concept can vary. The Rega intrigues me because you can order one with a cartridge for just over a grand. I guess I'm looking for info regarding these or any others that might work out as well. I understand that I'll need a phono stage as well but that's for a different thread. I'm hoping to keep the price of the 'table around $1500.00.
I'm not sure if this will be something that will stick with me or not so I don't want to go whole-hog from the start. I listen to music differently now than when I was younger and didn't have a problem flipping records over every 25 min. I like being able to put on music (computer audio) while I work throughout the day and can just let it run and not mess with it. I might find that vinyl just isn't for me anymore and don't want to take a huge hit if I need to sell everything. Of course on the other hand, if I do decide to run with it I can always upgrade down the road.
Thoughts, ideas, opinions...?
