I may take the dive back into the black magic of vinyl and was hoping for some input on a good starter turntable. There are a few that draw my interest as of right now.
This is my list so far:

VPI Traveler
Clearaudio Concept
Rega RP3

As far as first impressions, I like the Traveler the best. A US company that would be able to service quickly if the need arises and easy to contact. I've heard good and bad about the Clearaudio. Basically I've heard that the fit and finish of the Concept can vary. The Rega intrigues me because you can order one with a cartridge for just over a grand. I guess I'm looking for info regarding these or any others that might work out as well. I understand that I'll need a phono stage as well but that's for a different thread. I'm hoping to keep the price of the 'table around $1500.00.

I'm not sure if this will be something that will stick with me or not so I don't want to go whole-hog from the start. I listen to music differently now than when I was younger and didn't have a problem flipping records over every 25 min. I like being able to put on music (computer audio) while I work throughout the day and can just let it run and not mess with it. I might find that vinyl just isn't for me anymore and don't want to take a huge hit if I need to sell everything. Of course on the other hand, if I do decide to run with it I can always upgrade down the road.

Thoughts, ideas, opinions...?

Lost my post ...
Anyway, Doug,

all fine tables but the VPI stands out from the rest. You'll never need to replace and never complain.

But in all cases, you will need a phono stage (dont think your 845 SET has a phono stage) .

So you will either need a MM phono stage to make it line level for Moving magnet or an MC phono stage to make it line level for moving coil.

Let us know if you need help in this area..The VPI may be a bit much in table for a starter and based on current equipment however; tell us if your setup list (Dared VP-845 tube SET Integrated amplifier) is correct

I've seen the VPI and the Clearaudio in action. Both are very nice tables and I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

As for the Rega, I didn't see one, but Rega always gets stellar reviews and may be worth checking out.

Thanks guys. I only have a Rega dealer nearby so won't be able to see/hear the others. Rob, I have a Line Magnetic integrated so yes, I will need a phono stage. I'll insert a pic of my amp later for you to see some more tube goodness!

Doug....I'm on same boat....hmmmm....the VPI Classic is what I'm haunting for...with new gloss black option.

Very cool...can't get enough tubes...EXCEPT in phono stages...lol...I tried a Pro-Ject Tube Box II on my system...UGGGhhh

Hey, you cant go wrong with the Rega either...not many guys get to start out with those choices...

as to phono stages - This would be a recommend and will support MM or MC carts...

Not what I have but I have heard their 640P...my MC phono stage is custom built...for half the price...LOL

VPI Classic fan here. I want the Classic 3 myself....but I am interested in the new VPI table, The Vanquish. Its supposed to be quite good...but priced accordingly too.

Paul, the Classic line is on my wish list. Just can't go there right now. I just realized that Audio Advisor is about 15 min. from me and they have VPI. I could have one in a matter of minutes, I just won't be able to hear them.

Hey stay tuned for a good deal on a lightly used Classic 3...right Mike!!! Ha!

As promised here are a couple pics of my integrated along with my ARC DAC8 and Mac Mini.

Doug,

Beautiful photos and awesome LM 845. I love the way it looks. Hmmmmm. More toys......

Doug, check the Rega 'tables, great for starters and as you move up the line the better they get. They're basically no frills plug and play and sound amazing.

Doug, as a VPI owner I am prejudiced !! My vote is for the Traveler, If you don't like the vinyl thing , you won't take a huge hit on resale ! And VPI tables rock for their price !!

Wow...tube porn..LOL...Very nice !!!

Thanks Rob!

Thanks Joe! I have to tell you Joe if you're looking at getting more tube stuff the LM line is terrific for the money. I know a lot of people are put off by Chinese gear but this isn't some "mass produced in a sweatshop" stuff. It's all point-to-point hand wired by people who are into audio (and happen to live in China).

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm still on the fence about whether or not I want to take the plunge. I need to talk to our favorite vinyl seller guru (Jeff @ A/V Solutions) still. I'm sure he'll push me over the edge.:D

Doug

I've been checking out their gear. Very nice selection of tube amps. I plan on taking a closer look.

Thanks Rob!
