Genesis Speakers

ive heard genesis that look similar to those im not sure if they are the same model. they are really great room filling speakers. they were run on those big 1.2kw macs and i remember thinking that it sounded great but what was the point when the volume was hair blowing levels with the dial just at 10 o clock . seems they could play yankee stadium.
but they were very nice speakers.
 
Top Shelf gear..... I don't know who Gary pissed off here in USA. It's a damm shame they don't get more publicity/exposure. Genesis speakers have improved greatly over the years. Only caveat, is that the big ones need ROOM to stretch their legs. If my room was a little bigger.......

I listened to the big Genesis G2Jr speakers in the Genesis headquarters in Seattle. The speakers sounded spectacular even in the absence of serious room acoustics. Top notch resolution, dynamics --all the usual audiophile attributes --they were all there in spades. Gary is a very friendly guy who does not do any hard sell -- he is a guy who genuinely loves music and wants to share the love of music with as many people as he can. He uses a Burmester 911 (in stereo mode) to drive the speakers. I have not had a chance to listen to any of the other Genesis models.

Thanks Anshul. I would love to hear them one day. I've always admired our own Gary's big Genesis speakers.

I can vouch for the fact that Gary Koh is a gentleman. I have spoken with him in person and he is very friendly and unassuming. In other forums he is also gentlemanly in speaker discussions when his competitors are discussed, never having a word to say against them.

Regarding the question by Mike in the first post, I have heard the G2.2jr and they are very good speakers capable of filling LARGE rooms, but a large room isn't a requirement for their positioning. I think the power amp he used was the BIG Burmester 909. I know he also likes to demo the 1.2 Dragons with the Viola electronics and Tech DAS Air Force One turntable despite numerous internet photos of a Clearaudio Statement seen behind his 1.2 Dragons.
 
Thank you Gary. I personally would love to know your story of your Genesis speakers. When did you get them? Were you the original owner? Did you know these were destination speakers for you? How did you know Mc was the right pairing? Have you heard anything else that compares? Anything else....you've had them for as long as I can remember....so they must be very special.

Lastly, Paul from PS Audio loves his Genesis speakers. Not sure if you followed his journey on YouTube or not.

I thought Paul had (has ?) the INFINITY IRS V.

I think the IRS Infinity V is the forerunner of the Genesis 1.1, its direct descendant. There were changes to the IRS (for example, instead of 12 EMIT tweeters, there is the line array of different tweeters)...but generally there is a relationship, and I believe Gary Koh bought the company from Arnie Nudell who stayed for a short while, and it was perhaps during this time that the Genesis 1 emerged from the Infinity IRS V?
 
Didn't Arnie Nudell sell Infinity to Gary Koh? I think Genesis Speaker designs have their DNA from the Infinity speakers designed by Nudell. Line arrays with Servo woofers in separate or integrated towers. I am sure Gary can fill us in on the accurate history here...
 
I had a pair of these back in high school. Do these count?

It's been a while, but I believe Arnie started Genesis when he left Infinity. The original line of Genesis products including the Genesis 1 were designed by Arnie. Eventually Genesis went bust. Gary Koh came along to pick up the pieces and revive the name. I was an owner of Genesis II at the time. So I don't believe Gary Koh and Arnie Nudell ever worked on products together. Gary does an excellent job on his site of detailing the changes/evolution of the products. IMHO, the current Genesis products are a very significant improvement over the older ones.

Thx for filling in the historical connection to Nuddell. I knew they were somehow linked but wasn't sure exactly how.
 
Arnie Nudell's Genesis / Infinity affiliation and ownership was entirely different than the Genesis Physics Corp. that made the Genesis I, II, etc. that some of us remember from High School times.

Interestingly Arnie started Genesis in my little town of Avon, CO (base town for the Beaver Creek ski area) back in the late 80's - early 90's I believe it was. Something happened and they blew town.

A fellow I worked with a number of years ago was one of the Genesis employees during that period and had all sorts of stories about them building these monster speakers.
