Focal Maestro Utopia AMP recommendation

pelo, stop! don't change a thing. Go & see Dave & have a listen & learn from him. Your whole set-up is doom because every surface you have is a reflection of sound, the leather is hard, the wood is hard the floors, bookcase the same, the high ceilings are a resonating chamber of bad, & you have stairwells that echo along with your high ceilings, i can't believe no-one picked up on this. You have massive room issues that need to be addressed. You have one small oval rug that is absolutely a good choice but unfortunately needs to be about 50 times bigger to absorb the first wave let alone reflections & the fourth /tenth waves. Not trying to be snarky here mate, it's your room!!!!!& yes it can be made to work!

Oh my, I just stopped to look. I agree with sharkmouth's responses above - please stop. Read what kev has said because I also agree.

You should have posted your pics in advance, from page 5 and on I really don't understand all of the post because they should have been providing advise as above and not just gear.

You will never know what your speakers sound like nor be able to properly evaluate other gear being added unless you address your current set-up "room"

Don't take this personally but you obviously lack experience, did you buy any of this "speakers" from a dealer? Did any dealer come over? Is so did they not advise?

+1.

I would keep the Focal for sure

I have to get this off my chest. I apologize to Pelo and the members for what I'm fixing to say. I have reached out to Pelo, all but begged for him to make a 3.5 hour drive to my shop. I have told him in a subtle way that he has too much speaker for his room. I had Maestro's and many electronics to demo them with. My goal was to show him that smaller speakers in my 16x22 room actually sound much better than the big Maestro's. But I recently found out that he does not purchase from dealers. He searches the Internet for the cheapest prices he can find. He seems to take pride in this as one of his email address us 'nevermsrp". Wouldn't it be better to purchase from a dealer? This way you have access to all of the dealers resources and knowledge. Plus you will be building a relationship with that dealer that you can hold accountable. I feel as the dealer I am responsible for making the client happy and doing everything possible to do so. So has he really save any money, it seems to me that he got a great deal on a very expensive pair of speakers that are worth nothing in his setup but to put his motorcycle helmet on as you see in the picture. Now he is in a very bad place, with no one to hold accountable for his purchase but himself.

Well oh my, that's great that you have reached out but you as a dealer should never make such a negative remark of another so I must in partial disagree with your posting.

You should be spending your time and energy in assisting instead of insulting - not being negative. If you don't have anything positive to offer why post - I would be pissed if I was this person after reading such.

If you are experienced you shouldn't be discussing any speakers - his room - set-up first, PRIORITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dev - you don't know what you don't know. David HAS tried to help Pelo despite never making a dime from him. He has invited him to his showroom to hear Pelo's speakers with different amps, cables, Stillpoints, etc. He has refused his help. Fine. That's his prerogative - but its a mistake IMO.

David is the best dealer I have ever had the privilege of knowing in over 35 years in this hobby. He is a no BS kind of guy and NEVER sells you anything. He educates and lets people decide and buy or not buy.

If Pelo had been to David's, he would have more knowledge to draw upon and probably would be trying some Stillpoint or other demo products right now and well on his way to happiness.

I have reached out to him many times to try and help. But when he goes around me and calls my distributor direct and bypasses me then my rep/distributor calls me asking what's going on. So I have every right to state my opinion of this. My opinion was no more negative than any of your posts or the other guys post on this topic. It was just more transparent.

I would like to add that I have not heard this speaker personally but on Friday heard a pair of Stella's, bigger brother to OP's and the room was not 16 wide which the speakers were placed on and were working nicely. Loved the contrast of the red sides :)

Part 1

Mike, no need to defend him - why do feel so? - did you actually take the time to read the negatives he wrote? that's just wrong don't you think? specially coming from a dealer.

Part 2

Also all one has to do is read the posting from the get go, how many posting are there prior to page 5 when the OP show's pics of the room and from David, actually appears to me not to be addressing the situation at hand but to be selling.

Dev
This guy is not my client. He was referred to me by Devon at Tara and Arturo with Soulution/Accuphase. I contacted him and offered my help free of charge. I told him I didn't care if he purchased anything or not, I just wanted to help him out. So I am not responsible for his happiness with his gear. Whoever he bought his product from he should contact them for assistance. I was merely trying to help the guy out.

Dev - you are so far off base its not funny. David has tried repeatedly to help him by offering suggestions (free) and experience and demos and all Pelo does is try to go around him to get a better deal. I've never seen David sell. He educates and lets people decide.

You appear to be VERY frustrated - I'm a end user and have no financial benefits - not a dealer! I would never post such if I was.

Honestly you don't think posting that everyone can read saying: "But I recently found out that he does not purchase from dealers. He searches the Internet for the cheapest prices he can find. He seems to take pride in this as one of his email address us 'nevermsrp". Wouldn't it be better to purchase from a dealer?"

is proper or addresses the situation at hand?

#2 "he got a great deal on a very expensive pair of speakers that are worth nothing in his setup but to put his motorcycle helmet on as you see in the picture. Now he is in a very bad place, with no one to hold accountable for his purchase but himself."

I don't agree when you suggest the speakers are worth anything and the rest ...

Mike I'm not debating that he hasn't tried to assist in anyway but his negative posting - do you feel it's okay for a dealer to be little someone else and how they made their purchase as posted?

David wrote;

"he got a great deal on a very expensive pair of speakers that are worth nothing"

David is stating fact and indicating that if you don't work with a dealer, then you will have some challenges.

I can fully appreciate and it's great that you have been trying to assist but some of the info in your posting #64 that you wrote was just wrong in my eyes in reading and why I have posted responses.

Nothing against you personally :)

I'm sorry but that's CRAP Mike and totally disagree

Read what you want but writing the above is just wrong specially if you are a dealer

Yes I am very frustrated. I have done nothing but try and help this guy. He wants new electronics which is not the problem. Other members have told him this as well. This is a long going thread and it is frustrating to see someone not willing to listen. It's his ignorance that got him here to start with. Integrity and honesty are my only selling tools I have. I'll be the first to tell you that I don't know it all, but I will tell my clients when I don't know something and I will do everything I can to find out. No BS with me and it's not about the money.

David . i'm surprise !

you told me that you will get Solution amp this month
and also Magico S3
since many people told me Soulution might be the best amp for Maestro
i wait to hear it in your place
and also the Magico , to compare

few days ago , i asked you to pay for Alpha Digital power cord i order from you , and ask when i will get them shipped out.
and you told me you sold your Maestro and you prefer Magico.
so right now i lost the option to hear my great speakers with proper and matching amp

i think you not understand me completely , maybe because my bad english.

i'm new to Hi-Fi , started only a year ago with Focal Electra 1038 (fantastic speakers)
why i replaced them? i guess because it's fun to explore new models and i wanted "bigger sound".
everything new to me and i just trying to learn a "catch up".

i bought the Maestro for $19K
i thought it's a good deal since they cost much more in the stores.
i don't see anything wrong with it.

Magico story ,
i liked them at the CES show , even more then the Focal Grande (didn't heard the Stella at Naim room , they told me it's closed room for visitors)
so i thought , why not compare it with my Maestro and see which one i will like more?
this is why i asked Q3 or S5
