FirstWatt SIT-3

Absolutely terrible combination Randy :) Don’t even think about it. ;)

Absolutely awesome combo, especially since the SIT3 is low sensitivity.

Actually, the question should be “are your speakers a good match for the sit3?”

The sit3 likes between 4-8 ohms (probably closer to 6) and relatively high efficiency speakers.

Yea, I know that is a big consideration.

I do not believe that the impedance is an issue. The KEFs are "rated" at 8 ohm, but I have read reviews where tests were completed and it was stated they could have been rated at 6 ohm even possibly closer to 4 ohm. The real concern is that they are 89 db efficiency. They work extremely well with the Audio Mirror SET amplifiers, which are rated at 45 watts. The 18 watt SIT-3 may be pushing it, but I also do not listen to music loud often and am very much more concerned with smoothness and accuracy.

I do know that when I had the First Watt F6, which is rated at 25/50 WPC, I had the Music Culture speakers which are 4 ohm 85 db efficiency. The F6 got plenty loud enough for me and was very dynamic. This leads me to believe that the SIT-3 probably might work for me with the KEFs.

It is frustrating that they are in such limited quantities because this is one amplifier I would absolutely love to check out. But it is what it is and as it is now the SET mono blocks are great and the T+A makes a very nice SS backup!

According to JA's measurements doesn't look like a great match. 87 db actual sensitivity and dips to just over 3 ohms.

Jack, are you referring to my KEFs? If so this pretty much confirms what I was thinking. Even though I would love to check one out it probably would not be a good match for me :(.

I have to use a resistor across mine to keep the ohms down. My Duo are 18 ohms.

I have two more SIT-3 amps coming that are unspoken for....

PM me if interested.

I absolutely love my SIT-3 amp on my Avantgarde Duo XD. A wonderful combination.

Joe,
I see that you still have the Pass Labs XA25. Did you have a chance to compare the XA25 to the SIT3 on your speakers? If yes, what was your impression? (One of the employees at Reno Hifi thinks the XA25 is slightly better than the SIT3).
Thanks,
Anshul

Definitely don’t agree with that.

While the XA25 is a superb amp, it's a little more neutral with a little more solid state character. I absolutely prefer the SIT-3 by a long shot.

Maybe if my speakers were different ....

To Mike and Joe,

Are there any other mainstream speaker brands (apart from Avantgarde) that would work well with the SIT-3 amp in a medium sized room (no more than 15 X 20 feet dimension)? Devore 0/96 come to mind but their nominal impedance is about 10 ohms. From what I have read, the SIT-3 amp prefers impedance below 8 ohms.

Thanks,
Anshul
