Finally Pulled the trigger

Christian,if that is your name, people here are not short, curt or rude to one another. Most are here for that one reason alone & also for the reason that everyone is treated as an equal & with respect & likewise will beget the same.
In answer to your "thanks for nothing", all I did was go to their site, they are there for the world to see, or just google Viola Audio review, you will have to sift through the usual rubbish but there is a somewhat limited coverage of the brand. Seriously mate, welcome to the shark, most here have been conversing with each other for some time now & we all have bad days too, big breath & remember, smooth as cat shit, that'll do it! :D :D

+1. Well said Kev. Mark would have jumped in, but he is vacationing this week.

Lets all just be nice. We don't want to turn into those other sites.

jazz

Nick, what were your thoughts of the Nagra Jazz? I've been interested in what they've updated the pl-l to in the Jazz.

Just a quick post from Sanjay as he will pose question to Viola design team. His initial response as to why the Symphony sounds so sweet may relate to the way the amp is biased and the way the power transformer and input choke are utilized. Although a class AB design, it is class A at a low volumes and when you drive it harder it rolls to AB with greater efficiency.
Nick

Hi All:

Thank you for your comments everyone. Just to build on what Nick said here, the Viola Symphony employs a choke input power supply. This provides additional filtering and improves the power factor, which in turn helps eliminate the peak charging currents found in capacitor input-only power supplies. This combined with the way the amp is biased, contributes to the sound-staging and tactile sense of the program material at all frequencies. I would describe the Viola Symphony as clean, resolving, neutral, but smooth and delicate.

Also, to another point made about reviews, Viola has not had a huge number of reviews yet, but they are coming. For those that know Viola, they have a fierce cult following, which is a function of the quality of their design team and the performance of their technologies. This engineering team has been together since the early days of Mark Levinson (before they were sold to Harman). They were later together at Cello -- another fine organization in hi-fi, which many will remember prior to its sale. Viola is the new incarnation, with the same team. Paul Jayson is the President and chief engineer, and I can only say great things about this man. He's not only a brilliant engineer, he is humble and a real pleasure to work with. Just wait until you hear the new Viola Crescendo Preamplifier with on-board USB DAC.

Ok enough out of me. I don't want to sound too promotional. Enjoy!

Sanjay,

Welcome to the forum. I sincerely appreciate your input, description of Viola and some of the history. I know Nick will be a happy man.

Posting incorrect information is not ok. Unfortunately, this happens frequently on this site, however I now look forward to seeing the many unknowns reviews in about a week :)

Btw., how nice is Kev, posting "Do not you start!" and "Christian,if that is your name ..."?

Morning Tunes. I tried the Nagra Jazz with my old MF F-15 amp not the Symphony. I now realize I was trying to use a tube pre to offset some negative qualities of my room acoustics and not having the symphony.
That being said the Jazz is a beautifully built low maintenance (only 3 tubes), ergonomic beauty. It's remote as motorized not digital interface with the preamp. Each function vol, input, balance, and mute give a very succinct response. This is unlike a VAC pre I tried where I felt each touch especially volumn caused over or undershoot.
Sonically it likes to b paired with nagra amps. I had the Msa which was underpowered for my cr-1.
It does produce a very nice fluid soundstage, nice highs and a tight bass. Not as tight as my XP-20 or the Zanden 3100 I audition the same day. It would b neat to try other tube pres with the symphony. I just need a preamp, tube based to have good remote, not too many tubes, and preferably xlr.

Audio Research REF 5 (and SE) and add a upgrade with Duelund components :satisfying:

Nick

Maybe you should try the CJ GAT. This will be my second time with it. Only 2 tubes and remote control. Awesome layering and depth. I missed it so much that I am getting it again.

But not balanced, just like the CJ ACT2 I have heard several times :audiophile:

Time to punt Mr.Congeniality
:snicker:

The GAT will drive any preamp and long interconnects with its under 100 ohm output impedance. I'd like your opinion of it.

CJ Gat perhaps I'll audition at my local CJ dealer. First need to complete my room setup

All:

We did a little digging for reviews and articles about Viola, and posted them to our site. Please go to Ciamara DOT com and visit the Viola section.

Unfortunately not all of them are in English, but hopefully you will get the idea. More reviews should be coming soon.
