Finally at home in our new house!

I know it's over a month since the last post here, but a lot has happened within our family since March 15th...

Anyway, Wichita?! I understand why you moved there, but man, tornado central... Literally. That's precisely why I would never move anywhere around there. It's bad enough in Florida. LOL

The new room looks great, Randy. All I gotta say is that I wish you the best of luck out there in Kansas.

Enjoy Randy,

Chops, well how about those hail storms in Fla the last few days, unreal. Yesterday the hail storm beat the area around Lake County Can't wait to hear about the insurance adjustments due to that. Meteorologist Candice Campos is tracking reports of baseball-sized hail and multiple trees down in the Mascotte area, according to Lake County Emergency Management. That will do some damage.

One of the guys I work with lives over towards Tampa IIRC, and said they were getting pea sized hail over at his house yesterday. Luckily, nothing over in my neck of the woods yet, though last night I heard a transformer down the street zapping away in the wind with the quick storm we had.

The weather has been nuts for the last few days and the rest of the week into the weekend then they say its nice next week.. And tonight this

Wichita seems to not have a big problem with tornados. There has only been one that caused any kind of real damage in quite some time. Yes, there are windy days for sure :)... So far really liking Wichita. Getting a lot done around the house... I will be so glad when it is all complete.

Yea, we have been noticing all the weather events in Florida. Hang in there my friends over on the South Coast.

Everything that comes through here seems like it goes South (Oklahoma) and East (Missouri). Most people around here tell us that yes, we get weather but most of the severe stuff may do quick poppers in and out, but the really bad ones tend to not hit this area, most of the time.

How interesting. These stories are eye opening.

I noticed that McIntosh has taken Advanced Audio off of their website. It literally had to be one of the worst B&M stores I have visited.

I did find a real McIntosh dealer here in Wichita. Artisan Home Technology carries a few brands and does have at least one full system of each of his brands on display. They carry McIntosh, Hegel, Magnepan, Rotel, Devialet, Rel, Kimber, B&W, etc.

Thomas, the owner, let me know when McIntosh announced to the dealers of an upcoming trade in deal (starting May 1st). He has ordered the amplifier for me and if it does not get here prior to my knee surgery (May 8th) then he will bring it out and install it for me.

Knee Surgery, well that's not fun. A replacement or something like a ACL or a meniscectomy ( which I had done back in 2014). Good luck.

I need both knees replaced. It should have been done years ago, but I suffered through to get to retirement. The doctor is doing the first one, and then letting me recover from that and then doing the second one. So, the next couple of months is gonna suck, but hopefully in the long run all will be a lot better.

Hang in there Randy. Hope all goes well.

My girlfriend had her left hip fully replaced about 8 months ago (entire socket (or lack thereof) and top of femur). Very long story short, she went from extreme agony in the last few weeks before the surgery to almost zero pain a day or two after the surgery. Of course, it cost something in the order of $175k to do it. Thank goodness for decent insurance.

Randy, how do you like your new listening room in comparison to your old one?

Having recently moved to a new house myself I was initially concerned since I was leaving behind a dedicated listening room for a shared room. It turned out that my misgivings were unwarranted. The new room, despite having speaker/sub placement limitations due to aesthetics, has better acoustics than the old one and off the bat the system sounds better in it.

Despite being very happy with the sound, this week I decided to use REW to objectively (visual graphs) and subjectively (hearing) fine-tune their locations. Then I had the folks from Home Audio Fidelity create Roon convolution filters for my new set up. After applying the Roon convolution filters (DSP), the sound improved noticeably with all types of music but specially with big orchestral music when speakers are challenged the most. Highly recommended.

It seems to be good. Going in so many directions that I have not sat and listened critically that much yet. I do like how it sounds. Another thing I like is that it is at the end of a hallway which gives a little isolation but no stairs, which is nice!

Thanks Randy!
Enjoy your new place and good luck with the surgery!!

Glad to hear you were able to make a solid connection with Thomas at Artisan! He's definitely the highlight of our local audio scene (such as it is), and deserves better than the market we have.

Artisan seems like a solid audio provider. I am looking forward to receiving my new amplifier. Hopefully he can get it quickly!

Good luck my friend. Rehab is a pain for knee, per the wife she felt the rehab was worst than the surgery, but they came to the house which made it easy to deal with. But you got this, it will be done, over and life comes on. Remember, walk , walk, walk.
