If you don't mind let me run an idea I'm toying with. I auditioned Magico S5 the other day found the bass a little too loose for my taste.
The highs are quite spectacular even if they come at the cost of some musicality. My focus is HT. So the highs are great for dialogue.
So my idea is going with S1, a center channel and two JL F113.
I wonder if that will give the desired effect?

Since your focus is HT - that sounds like a great plan. Big bad subs like the F113's make HT a blast!

If you were focused on 2 channel - I would be asking which amps the S5's were paired with, because I've heard them 5 times now and bass was never loose.

I thought they had very tight and punchy bass when I heard them. It could also be a room setup issue !!

I'm very positive this will be my last post!

I'm sorry you feel that way, but with all due respect, you can't join a forum and demand someone change their username just because it has some sentimental meaning to you.

I'm just starting that process. I'm having a professional theater built. With emphasis on good sound. Currently I'm using a 5.1 system. Changed from two smaller subs to one big JL F113. Onkyo 5008 and Mark Levinson 533. These processors change so rapidly it is hard to keep up. The room I'm bulding is going to be somewhat bigger than the current one I guess I should consider 7.1 or 7.2.
What possible surround sound system setup are you building; a 5.2 or a 7.2 one?

AND! What SSP (surround pre-amp) are you intending to use?

Hi Mike
I trust your judgement if your not getting that loose bass I will look again.
The TAVES show is next weekend. I will have an opportunity listen to number of other speakers. With S5 still relatively fresh in my mind I will compare what I here to the Magicos.

Since there are two respectable opinions. I will revisit these speakers. See if I still feel the same way. The room was heavily masked.
