Favorite 5 Albums: Jazz

Love these threads, make a list and sample on youtube before buying from Amazon. So many to choose from and always evolving, here are 5 I have been enjoying lately.

Keith Jarrett.......Bye Bye Blackbird
LA4...................Just friends
Hank Mobly.........Roll call
Dexter Gordon.....Clubhouse
Ray Brown Trio....Soular energy

I've seen this thread since its very first inception.
And I thought about it, and thought some more about it; and simply couldn't name just five favorite jazz album selections.

There are just too many, and some are equally my favorites as my other favorites.

______________

* Not bad selection at all Andre, just above. ...But then, so are the selections of all the other members. :)

Bob, I think the thread is more about what five Jazz albums you like currently. For me that means they will change on any given day. After all, we are all finding new music to listen to all the time. And through this thread we can explore new artists/albums.

I hear ya, Bob. I think I would swap Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio - Autumn in Seattle in for Getz Anniversary today :) I have it on 200g vinyl from FIM and it may be the most spectacular recording I own from a sonics perspective.

I have to add a couple more of my favorite Jazz albums to this list. I've bought a few from others' recommendations that I really like and want to keep this going.

I've got a good number of these recommended albums either on vinyl or CD, and I do listen to them once is a very rare while. Yeah, they are classics, but not what I normally reach for when looking for something to listen to. I also tend to look for something I haven't heard in a long while when I am looking for something to play, rather than going back to a short list of fave's.

I guess what I am saying is I could probably list 5 that I played recently and liked, but wouldn't call any of them favorites, just recent playbacks (and most not "classics" in that sense).

such as (some classics are in this list though):

Phillippe Saisse - At World's Edge
Corea Clarke & White - Forever
Vince Guaraldi - Charlie Brown Christmas
Freddie Hubbard - Red Clay
Alternative Blues (Freddie, Clark Terry, Dizzy, Oscar, Ray Brown)

My list is pretty obvious, but you like what you like. ;)

Here we go:

The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out
John Coltrane - Blue Train
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Herbie Hancock - Empyrean Isles
Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus
