Has anyone ever seen "High Fidelity" with John Cusack, Jack Black, et al? It's a very enjoyable flick, and one of the themes throughout is they create "Top 5" lists as they hang out at a record store. I think this would be a fun way to explore new music by genre. These are my current "favorite" jazz albums; this is not a declaration that they are the best, though at least the first 4 have to be up there! Here's my start in Jazz, and if it works out we could add Classic Rock, Modern Rock, Classical, etc.

Jay's Top 5 Jazz Albums

1. Kind of Blue - Miles Davis
2. Time Out- Dave Brubeck Quartet
3. Somethin' Else - Cannonball Adderley
4. Blue Train - John Coltrane
5. Anniversary - Stan Getz

This is a great idea. I need to start procuring my vinyl jazz collection and there are so many titles I want that it will be interesting to see what everyone comes up with.

As of today my five favs are:

Lee-Way - Lee Morgan
Ready for Freddie - Freddie Hubbard
Where Do You Start - Brad Mehldau Trio
Unity - Larry Young
Being There - Tord Gustavsen Trio

Jay... I like your list. The only thing I would change is #5

Cyril, If you like the Ray Brown Trio, give "Live at the Loa - Summer Wind" a listen.

I'm throwing this out there too for something a little different. Andy Summers, guitarist for The Police, put out a couple of nice Jazz albums that I think are worth mentioning. "Earth & Sky" and "Green Chimneys: The Music of Thelonious Monk."

Green Chimneys includes "Round Midnight" with Sting on vocals and it is a great performance.
