Ethernet Cables

I just finished comparing the AQ 'Diamond' ...the WireWorld 'Platinum' and the Revelation Audio 'Revelation' cables. i needed 2, to upgrade the AQ 'Vodka and Cinnamon' cables i did use. I found the WW and Revelation cables to be very close indeed and a significant improvement over the AQ cables. The AQ 'Diamond' was also good but ...in my system...not as good..For those who say that ethernet cables 'do not' make a difference...you're just wrong...!!!!

I agree. I've done comparisons between stock CAT6/7 vs AudioQuest Vodka vs AudioQuest Diamond. The Diamond left me shaking my head. It was way better than the stock and a leg up on the Vodka in terms of detail retrieval and resolution.

AQ Diamond ethernet is awesome. It improves Tidal streaming quality dramatically IME.

Anyone try a FMC (Fiber Media Converter) between the endpoint and the router/switch (where the endpoint is directly connected) ? I had both AQ Vodka & WW Starlight earlier and sold it after getting a FMC powered by a good psu. Now I use short BJC Cat6a and find any type of Ethernet cable doesn't make any difference. Worth a try if you are bought into the idea of Ethernet cables can make a difference.

I think there a few users here using FMC.

What PSU did you use with the FMC?

For Lumin S1 / A1 / T1 / D1 (Fast Ethernet), a compatible pair of FMC would be MC110CS

My buddy and I did a series of tests between Ethernet cables from SotM, the Audioquest vodka, the Wireworlds, Synergistic Research, AQVOX, Purist Audio, and some other ones. The biggest take away between both our systems was that the SotM stood out. More musical, wide sound stage, without losing the integrity of the music. Depending on your system, it can come off a little hair lean on the midrange.. however, after adding the ISO-CAT6 LAN filter, that went away and you also got the a nice drop in noise too. It can get steep when you're talking multiple cables, but the SotM dBL-CAT7 was definitely the best of the bunch.

However, if that's out of your $ range, check out the Supra Cat 8's - probably performed just as well as many of those higher end cables at a much more reasonable rate. Definitely an upgrade of stock. You won't necessarily get all the soundstage and detail that the SoTM brings out, but get a little bump all over. Do note it's a on the slightly warmer spectrum if that's something you're looking for.

FMC rocks!

A few months ago, I was at Mike's store, using my 2M AQ Vodka. We needed a slightly longer Ethernet cable, so Mike hauled out his 3M AQ Diamond.

I was totally unprepared for the magnitude of improvement, and from a longer cable! I admit that I was shocked at the obvious improvement in every area.

Needless to say, I have the Diamond now...

I think my AQ Diamond ethernet is finally broken in. It takes north of 200+ hours. The final result is Tidal streaming very very close to music playing off USB drives. Very enjoyable and relaxed sound.

Are folks here just switching out the Ethernet cable from the wall to the server, or is anyone also switching out the cable from the router (or switch) to the wall?

My client just did both. AudioQuest Carbon 700 to NetGear switch (70 feet), AQ Diamond from switch to Aurender. Big improvement!

I should have used AQ in-wall ethernet cable when we built our house.
Too many things going on and it was overlooked.

I began using Cinnamon but after trying Nordost C-Serve I thought they sounded better so I switched to them. After some time I invested in a new RaidHo/Ansuz/Aavik system and thought I should make sure the source was as good as I could make it. In the process I upgraded the C-Serve's to Nordost Haimdall 2's. I've made so many changes/improvements to my system I couldn't say if that made a significant difference.

Welcome Bud

Honestly if you put everything back that you started with I'm sure you would say WOW I never knew what I was missing.

In my case, I have an Airport Express and switch and replaced cables from the Airport Express, NAS, Naim Streamer and Naim Server all at once. I'm pretty sure I didn't need to replace the one going to the AE since it's only used for control. I never did learn which was the best cable(s) to replace but one of them was a Nordost Indigo and three were Nordost C-Serves. I just took the shotgun approach which was probably more costly than needed to be.

As I told someone, all those pretty red Nordost cables looked nice (and now that I'm into Ansuz, they were a lot cheaper than DTC PC's).
