Why would they update the N-01XD (as has been announced) but not the K-01XD? I might get it if they stopped the udpates at the Grandioso line, but they haven’t and are offering an udpate to a product that is at the same -01XD level in the lineup and presumably has essentially the same clock and output stage as the K-01XD. I guess we’ll see.
 
Has anyone compared an XD SE unit with the same XD SE unit + external clock (Esoteric, Cybershaft, Mutec, etc)? Playing CDs/SACDs or downloaded or streamed music? In other words, how much and under what circumstances does an external clock yield improved SQ when used with an SE technology DAC/player?

I agree with the logic of including the K-01XD based on the N-01XD being in the upgrade program. I would be very happy if the K-01XD was added to the list. Perhaps my concern is based on the fact that it wasn't included already.

Regardless, I would not hesitate to have the update done if the K-01XD is added to the list in the future.

The N-01XD SE was announced in January, with the announcement of the US upgrade kits this month. The K-01XD SE and K-03XD SE were announced in May. Esoteric will likely want to concentrate on initial production of complete new units before announcing their US upgrade kits for these units.
 
I’m thinking about the upgrade. Did Esoteric provide a description as to exactly what are the changes?

The Esoteric website describes the key differences between the regular and SE models as an upgraded internal discrete clock and better analog output from the dac.
 
Has anybody in the US market had an SE upgrade done? I'm told the upgrade is not available in Japan, and I know it's not available in my market. I wonder if any have been done anywhere?
 
A good friend in the US just had his P1X transport and D1X DACs upgraded to SE. He is extremely happy and told me the differences are not subtle.

Good to know. Would be great to get some more info. Incredible that no one has posted anything about the sound differences between the SE and non SE models.

I would if I could, but I can't because the SE upgrade is not available in my market, and Esoteric won't do it in Japan either. My only choice is to buy a new SE, and I'm not going to do that.
 
I’ve been contemplating the upgrade of my N01XD to SE status. But I’m also considering going separate digital with a top end server/streamer and separate DAC.

Esoteric and the distributor should do a better job providing more info and better visibility to the SE product. What are the sonic virtues of the SE upgrade?

I'm steering away from separates...I want a Grandioso level integrated amp with network module and phono pre-amp.
