Today’s update for Esoteric N-01XD / N-05XD / N-03T and TEAC UD-701N add support for (Roon Only) RAAT Mode. To use this you will have to upgrade both the Network firmware using Esoteric Sound Stream app or Lumin app (hereafter "native apps"), and update the Esoteric / TEAC I/F firmware.

Feature Description:
In Roon Only RAAT mode, all forms of non-Roon network playback are removed, including native apps playback (UPnP, OpenHome, internet radio), app settings control, Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, AirPlay, etc.

Rationale:
To determine whether disabling other services yield a SQ improvement for Roon Ready.

Limitations:
Even the native apps will not be able to see the unit in Roon Only RAAT mode because its native UPnP / OpenHome is disabled.

The enabling / disabling of RAAT Mode is done using the front panel buttons on these Esoteric / TEAC models. After enabling RAAT mode, the native apps / Tidal Connect / Spotify Connect / AirPlay can no longer used - only Roon can be used. To upgrade the network firmware in the future, you have to disable RAAT mode first, then use the native apps.

I'm yet to see a streamer/renderer/endpoint which doesn't sound better using UPnP/DLNA or some native protocol compared with Roon. I don't have a logical explanation why - "on paper" Roon protocol / RAAT looks better than UPnP.

agreed and I do need to update our N-05XD and try.

I did this update on my n-03t and enabled RAAT mode. So far it works flawlessly and I am pleased with the results.

Oops -- I enabled RAAT mode. I only use my n-03t as a roon endpoint, so it's nice to be able to turn off the other unused services.
